Jim, that's an awesome team effort, a very daunting challenge when you started but many millions of metres down the track and you've finally accomplished what you set out to do. I guess you have the 'travel' bug now, good luck on your next mission.

Cheers, Shirley, (FF)

Great CTC row this month John. You've pushed our #1 boat into 9th spot! Also wanted to extend a welcome to Walter and Vicki Field who I coaxed into joining our team this week. I met Wally down at the Deas Rowing Club here in Delta BC last weekend - my first real row on the water in 17 years. I got the blisters, the tight forearms and a few splashes from my own oar .... it was like I never left the sport ... :D

Get out of the pub you lazy hosers!

The rest is over. We have left Mooring's Pub in Port Magee, Ireland and we are heading across the Atlantic to C2 Headquarters. From there we will continue around the coast of the America's

Yup, this is the start of the coastal row. Your rows from here on in will count toward the coastal row. I am having a few technical difficulties with the website but nothing too drastic.

Let me know what features you would like to see:
  • See rows by individual rower?
    See rows by date selection?
See your percentage of the row?
As you may have guessed I am back in Yellowknife, after a great trip through Victoria, Whistler, Vancouver, San Diego, the deserts of California, Las Vegas and back to Coronado beach in San Diego

I think it would be great to see each contributors individual effort/contribution. I sort of lost track; who was the closest in quessing our finish date?

It would be fun to see by individual rower, total length/percentage.

Hi Gang:
We are slowly moving across the Atlantic from the Coast of Ireland to the C2 Headquarters. This is the beginning of our coastal row. I wanted to put the Atlantic portion in so no one would challenge us that we did not row the Atlantic in our around the world row.

The website will require many improvements. I am having trouble with the google earth file automatically updating itself, but I am still working on it. Very frustrating, any of you progammer's out there will no what I mean. It works flawlessly in the development environment, but has difficulty when deployed.

I will incorporate the individual row, percentage, suggestions. Thank you for your input.

Try pointing your browsers to:
C2Coastal

Let me know what problems you run into.
Here is a picture of Mooring's Pub. Our departure point for both rows.

I think I will plan a trip there when upon completion of our coastal row.

Keep on rowin', eh.

Ah, Moorings Pub does sound like a good idea. Not the shortest route to get there, but the Guinness Drought will be quite welcome by then.

I seem to have a problem seeing any contents in http://216.119.121.169/c2coastal/ehteam.kmz
It shows up as "ehteam-3.kmz" in Google Earth with a subsection entitled "Coastal Route" but Google Earth can't seem to see there are any placemarks inside "Coastal Route"

(No problem with http://216.119.121.169/c2coastal/Routes ... 0route.kmz)

And certainly not trying to hurry you. And thanks for doing all this.

Dan:
A couple of things to help me out:

  • Does the c2coastal page show up?
When you are in google earth and you right click on the ehteam-3.kmz subsection and properties, what does it say?
Same thing for the properties of the coastal route subsection - ie: what does it say when you right click it ->properties?
The ehteam-3, worries me. It should just be ehteam.kmz. Try deleting all of the ehteam*.kmz files on your comp.

Let me know if this helps.
Anyone else having similar issues?
(It does show a row of 12474 for you on March 4, 2007)

Keep on rowin', eh.

The fast track for some browsers is:
http://216.119.121.169/c2coastal/coastalroute.kml
the kml file

This will NOT work in Internet explorer. It should give you all of the waypoints in Explorer, but it will not start google earth directly.

It would be easy if I did not have to accomodate Microsoft and their popular browser

Keep on rowin', eh.

Hello Jim,

I seem to be okay now.

I had no problems getting to the c2coastal page: http://216.119.121.169/c2coastal/
either with Firefox (which I currently use) or with IE.

I deleted previous kmz files and that took care of the file showing up in GoogleEarth as ehteam-3. In hindsight, now that I am working properly, I don't think that was really a problem, but at the time I thought it might be a clue.

After making sure the other kmz files were gone, I clicked on the link on the c2coastal page and selected to open it with Google Earth. Google Earth seemed to have a problem with that (which was new - I didn't have that problem yesterday). I got a Google Earth Error popup saying the open of the tempfile ehteam.kmz.kml failed with a Parse Error: Invalid document structure at line: 1.
So then, instead of saying to open the file with Google Earth, I just selected to save the kmz file, and then I opened the kmz file with Google Earth. Now, I saw the same thing I saw yesterday, except now the name was ehteam.kmz, not ehteam-3.kmz. But I still couldn't see any placemarks.
When I went to edit the properties, I saw that the Location field in the Network Link Properties was blank. It knew it was a network link but it didn't know the location. So I set the location to http://216.119.121.169/c2coastal/ and everything was fine.

This seems to be a time of changes, and after having finished the Around the World Row, finished my Million Meter Challenge and also finished my first year of rowing, I saw that it was time for me to row with a "local" team and just joined the Million Meter Vikings.

It was great to row with you all around the world, and want to thank you all for the great company. Special thanks to Jim, for all the work that you put in here! All the best to you all, Eh! Team, and keep on rowing!

A Viking, eh? Well, you'll just have to post a picture wearing your team hat.
Good luck to you, Brigitte.
