screwed up drag factors

Post by tigernoodles » February 26th, 2007, 5:15 am

when i rowed at the rowing club we would use a setting of 3 to 4 which was something like 110 to 120. now im erging on "more experienced" ergs in the school gym and i have the lever at 4 but the drag factor reads 69 or 70. i can see a lot of dust in the flywheel and covering, some of which looks like it blocks air coming in. does this dust it make a difference with the drag factor and splits that it reads out? is there something else probably wrong with it?

thanks for your help

yes.

Clean them and the drag will be normal again. The dust block's the normal airflow.

does all the dust affect the splits that the machine reads out?

The dust doesn't affect the splits, except when it clogs up your lungs.

Best is to take the cover off the fan cage, then wipe off the perforations and all around the fan with a damp cloth then a dry one.

In lieu of taking off the cover, you could just wipe all the perforations on the outside with a damp cloth then a dry one.

That might help a bit. If it doesn't then you'll need to take off the cover.

No. The monitor calculates how much drag there is based on how fast the flywheel slows down.
