This whole thing about the start: Is it any different than starting an interval after a rest that was long enough for the fly wheel to be dead stopped? I thought it was the same as that. In other words, the clock starts as soon as it says ROW, and the interval starts as soon as it says 0:00, and your first few pulls just aren't what you expect.

Rick, I'm really sorry you can't compete. If you are volunteering I'd love to have you coach me (if there isn't a line of 40--49 women already asking you!)

There is a difference. You know when the interval is coming and can anticipate it. In a race, the signal to start can be at any time after the ready signal.

Rick, I'm very sorry you won't be competing with us Sunday, and hope you quickly regain your health.

Please shout encouragement to Carla. You saw first-hand how freaked out I get by spectators; I'll be doing my best to convince myself I'm rowing alone in a silent room. Bringing a Trappist monk to cox. :D

Rick--

You've been a rock, training and racing over the years. I hope a miracle occurs.

Did my final time trial tonight. Or at least I tried. PB is 7:10. I held a 1:45 pace for 1300M but put the handle down at 600 meters to go. Died that fast. Looks like I'll shoot for a personal best Sunday rather than C.R.A.S.H. and burn (pun obviously intended) trying to break 7:00.

Only been at this C2 thing for 5 months so I guess I should be happy with a PB. Now if I can just stick to that plan and not let the excitement get to me.

Looking forward to meeting a bunch of you who have inspired me and made me smile on many occasions over the past few months.

Tuesday
UT1 2x8min/avg 1:57/23spm
Both around 1:56.9 pace, 23 spm

Felt great, nice and relaxed. I'm almost ready...

Rick, sorry to hear you will not be racing on Sunday. As Tom said, lets hope it all goes away by then. If you are volunteering, give a shout or two for me. I will be in the Senior LWT category. See if I can better the 6:50.6 PB that I rowed at your place in 2006.

This is my last hard workout before Sunday.

To work on my start, I did all reps from a dead start.
8 x 500M @ 2K - 1.5, 3min rec
I feel ready !

Starting to take it easy pre CRASH B - but need to keep my stamina up because I'm also training for a 3.5 mile on the water race in Boston Harbor just 3 weeks from now (Brrrrr!).

Did 2 x 5K at 1:59.

Then I watched some of the graphic replays from last years CRASH B's.

Having never participated in a sanctioned 2K race (what a great sport that a newbie can go to Worlds!) figured I'd better see what other people do. Not too many fly-n-die. Better stick to my conservative plan.

Watching the times from Row #1 of the Open Men just boggles the mind!

Tonight was 2 x 8' UT1 like Will. (Well, except mine was about 3 secs/500 slower!) It felt slow and heavy. I am a bit worried that I'm not used to much faster spm stuff and will end up slogging along at 24 spm. Well, I suppose, whatever works!

1977 2:01.3/22
1987 2:00.7/22 target was 2:02. It felt a little hard, I probably should not have pushed the pace.

Thursday is 3 x 1.5 AN and then two rest days before the race. I will pretend each interval tomorrow is a race start.

I can't believe it's this week. Mine was only a 22 week plan, 4 x week. Hats off to you guys that stuck on the schedule for 26 weeks at 5 and 6 workouts/week!

Seedings and row/erg assignments are finally up on the CRASH B web site.

I've got a long way to go to win, but a long way to fall to come in last.

I am still following the thread with a variety of emotions; excitement for those of you racing, sympathy for Rick, and a tinge of jealousy that you get to meet one another. Would someone PLEASE take a photo of the Boston Road gang? I want to see the medals! And, I sure hope I get a full report of the day. Rick, even though you suffer from trophy-clutter, it is a shame to train so long and not get to hear the crowd cheer you on.

I am back home and had a good 10K row-pro row yesterday. Still spending considerable time in the hospital with my father in law....the difference is that I park in slush here.

I will be doing a 2K Sunday, but don't expect me to make my time public (unless it is good  )

2x750-1.48/race rate

1.47.8/31 spm
1.47.5/32 spm

A bit faster than plan.

Knees hurt. Back is tight. Left-hand was cramping all day. It time to start working on my excuses.

Tom,
Excuses????? Your time was fast so there can't be any excuses. And, please, don't let that left hand cramp be an excuse for not taking a photo!
You've been the brains behind this group, but it might be time to stop thinking and just let the training work.

Anybody who sees this old fart stolling the arena Sunday please stop and say hi. I'll take some pictures and hopefully post them here. I'm the guy wearing the red Vespoli cap and still carting around about 20 of the 50 extra pounds I said I was going to lose by Christmas. I'm in Group 4 (HW 50-54) at 9:45 wearing a red bandana and looking like death.

tonight some easy short distances keeping my heart rate below 152
2 x 2500M @ 1:58
5000M @ 1:57
2K strapless @ 1:58
