Juliane Elander won the Women open LWT in an impressive 7:04

The men’s open LWT stood between Eskild, Mads and Henrik.

Eskild went out in his usual style and was immediately in front. Mads started to dig in and caught Eskild at about 450. At about 500m Henrik kept going at 1:31-1:32 for another 700m where Mads and Eskild had to drop to 1:33 and 1:34 respectively. The last 700m was fairly equal if one includes Eskild usual strong finish:

Henrik won in 6:07.1, Mads second in 6:09 and Eskild 3rd in 6:10.2.

Mads did not live up to the expected performance considering his latest training results. Eskild have been ill for the greater part of December and Henrik have been out with a bag injury why chances are good that they will perform “differently” at CRASH-B (yes – chances are very good that they will all be there!)

Ha, looks like Henrik has set a bit of a fashion with his 41 spm. Who has seen any of these guys row in the high stroke rates? I'm curious as to how low a damper setting they use. 110, 100? I figure it must be pretty low.

Ebbesen has been reported to use 117 to 121.

I've not heard much about Stephensen.

Yea i just looked at some of the pictures somebody posted and it looks like they are set at around a 4 on most of the men's ergs that I can see, which doesn't give any sure measurement but it's not extremely low or high. I would like to see Stephansen row the erg very much now, hopefully I can catch him in person at crash-b. Is he going to be in the Open Light event finally or is he still 18 and under?

Henrik will join Mads and Eskild in the Open LWT.

I wonder who else is comming (who can put them under pressure) Anyone knows?

why do you think you need to rate high if you use a lower drag and vice versa? I don,t think the danish do have a low drag. Drag is not that important. Only on very short sprints you need to use a high drag to get the best result's. Everthing above 1k will not be that differant nomatter what drag you use.

My original line of thought was that in order to be able to maintain a higher stroke rating (well, REALLY high, above 42), it might be necessary to decrease the drag. With lower drag the fan slows down less in between strokes and so there is less acceleration on each stroke=less time on each drive=higher stroke rate. However I've been thinking it through and if you spend less time on the recovery than the fan will have less time to slow down on the recovery anyway, and so decreasing the drag is not necessary. got it...still seems pretty ridiculous I really want to see this race.

as for crash-b competition vs. the danish? I would guess Italians, Elia Luini? World record holders usually put pressure on the competition if they decide to show up.

(new users apparently can't post links so you'll have to copy paste the above line, sorry)

Have fun watching.
