Hi Paul, I'll ask Scott that question to confirm but I'm pretty sure there is not a fixed maximum score. There are a number of parameters such as minimum # of fish on the screen, % predator, % prey large and small, etc, so there is a degree of controlled randomness to what is going on. What this means that, much like playing solitaire, sometimes you get a good shuffle......JonW

Darn it, caught in the act....Don't tell anyone, OK? Seriously, we've been tweaking the Fish Game for a couple of months, and admittedly I have as much time on the various prototypes as anyone. So it's probably just a matter of time before someone else figures out all the nuances and has a really good shuffle, and my reign as king of the fishermen will be over. But till then I'll walk with a little more swagger in my step, smug in my superiority over all.
Part of the problem(?) is the workout room is on the way to the mens room, and a 4-minute row is almost no time at all.......JonW

It's a fun little game. The randomness helps with the replayability. However, the thought struck me that the pattern of the fish could be programmed to create a guide through a good interval workout. Stick to the program and you get a perfect score. Slow down or speed up at the wrong time and you loose points. Since the game adjusts to your pace the workout would adapt to every level of fitness/skill. (A little bit out of the initial design parameters, but....)

I would suggest storing the score for each game on the logcard along with the other data as well as keeping track of the high score for that particular logcard/PM3.

Hi!
I just downloaded the game... Wow!!! It's really funny!
I have one question: does it install the game on my logcard? I hope so, because I'd be able to play it at school (we have approximately 25 rowing machine!! )
Thank you for this game! :-)
Jess

Can't be done off the log card. The locard saves the Fish Game as a 4 minute workout with 4x1 minute splits. Pace, watts, meters rowed and calories are there, but the Game score is not. It's on the wish list....enjoy, JonW

(At the moment I have to take my laptop into the gym, find the USB cable and so on.)

You could keep the folks with Apple Macs happy that way too. I offered to have a Mac user, I know, mail his PM3 to me so I could run the update for him.

Nice idea but the reality is Concept2's LogCards only store 32K of data, the PM3 is appraching 1M of code. I'm not sure that anyone makes a 1-2M smartcard, not to mention that you'd have to update your PM3 to get firmware that allowed future updates from a smartcard, and currently there are no plans to even consider this...

The Mac updater is in the plans, but not written yet...

- Scott
i agree.. saving the score to the logcard would be a nice addition..

nice job on the skill level autocorrecting to your startup.. I didnt know about that til I read another post.

what also might be nice is additional obstacles types.. with varying points being deducted.. maybe a large anchor drops sitting in the sand at the bottom.. or perhaps a fish hook dropping down from the surface... maybe a fishing net with just a small opening that you'd have to pass through.. or a human diver swimming towards you..

you could have other bonus's to shrink the size of your fish, or maybe make your fish invulnerable, so you wouldnt have to dodge the sharp tooth guys..

I'm sure I could come up with other ideas, those are just off the top of my head.

SF

Question Does everyone always get eaten over and over whe they stay at the surface? I sure do. Lurking on the bottom is my option, but its a bit weird-I don't usually literally stop rowing several times in a session. So much for smooth consecutive strokes.

Perhaps you can do an age-related ranking system for the scoring? Poor old grams couldn't get past 1005 today. Lowest score was 505.

grams

That is pretty hard as you will have to row harder and harder and harder to stay there.

I don't think there is a need for any age-related ranking -- my kids can play pretty well, and they're little. It does adapt to your rowing pretty well.

As an aside, there is NO need to stop rowing entirely. Just take light strokes to drop yourself down.

I think you answered my question-variability is the key-not speed. I'm curious-what score ranges do your kids generate?

I can see that the game is fun for kids-they aren't interesetd in long workouts at a constant rate-the numbers don't matter to them.

Is this a secret plan to get families to buy more ergs? LOL

grams
