Make PM3 go to sleep for shipping

Post by stuBriggs » January 13th, 2007, 5:26 pm

How can I program PM3 to not wake if buttons are pressed?
I want to ship my PM3 and not have it come on till either log card is plugged in or the fan wakes it up, just like I got it from C2.

Concept2 leaves the batteries in.
I want to leave the batteries in!
Come on, I know someone out there knows a better answer, how does C2 do it?

It's been a long time since I have seen a new PM3 but my PM4 came with the batteries out.

PM3 comes with batteries installed

Post by stuBriggs » January 13th, 2007, 8:21 pm

I just bought the monitor not long ago, it had batteries installed.

Read the special note in the text box on the bottom of the page:

Hi Stu,

There is nothing pressing on the face of the monitor when it's packed, so there should be nothing that causes it to go on.

If it did go on, however, it would go back off in a minute or so.

Again, that doesn't answer my question: How can I program PM3 to not wake if buttons are pressed? As C2 ships their PM3's

As far as I know they ship them the same way.

There may be a hidden menu that C2 can use. (I know of one hidden menu to change a PM3 between model D and model C.) But, for normal users there is no way to do this.

So you have two choices:
  1. take the batteries out
  2. lots and lots of bubble wrap
You could ask Scott Hamilton scotth at concept2 dot com.

I'm thinking there may be a special software update C2 loads the monitor with before shipping, that tells the monitor to ignore button movement till a signal comes from an other source to wake the monitor for the first time.

You may be right, only Scott @ Concept2 has the answer to this question.

Thanks for all your suggestions

Stu,- You are absolutely correct there is a button sequence that will put the monitor to sleep and deactivate the keypad. The problem is I am at home and don't recall it exactly, but I think if you go to the language page (main menu, more options, utilities, language, I think) then press the left lower button three times slowly followed by three slow presses of the middle lower button. If I have that right then the monitor will go blank and will only awaken when it gets a tach signal or a log card is inserted. This is to reduce the possibility of battery usage between time of manufacture of the unit and the time of unboxing and use. I'll post again tomorrow if I don't have it right.....C2JonW

How many other hidden menus are there?

I know the one from main menu, more options, utilities, LCD contrast, then the magic six key presses.

Can we get them documented somewhere?
