JVC: Resolutions in a Row
I decided to give the erg another try today. First an hour's walk around a park-its a very grey sky and the barometer is falling more rain coming.
Its nicer to be inside and erging. Only 4000 meters; I need to ease back into longer sessions. Nice new age didgerdoo music in the background. A dvd I picked up in Oz, where the sun is no doubt shining.

Oh boy!! I've been so wrapped up with work that I forgot the JVC started today. I rowed about 5 minutes this morning and then the phone rang and I got sidetracked. I wasn't even thinking about rowing tonight until I got on the message board, now I can't wait to get home and log some meters!!! I'm a newbie to rowing (under 1 month still) but have done a couple of 5k rows so hopefully I'll build up some. I'm so excited!!!!!!!! Happy New Year everyone and Good Luck in the JVC challenge and meeting your goals!!!

Hi--I just joined this JVC team (as long as Wood Duck lets me in!). I've lurked on the forum a bit, finally registered this morning.
I completed the HC at 221K. I've had my Model C since 1999, and most of that time it's gathered dust...(no where near the million meter club!!! ) I stumbled on the holiday challenge in 2005 and did 106K. This past year I was determined to hit 200K.
I'm 53 and a single parent to two girls, 6 and 4, adopted from China and Guatemala. There's a reason the average woman my age is no longer very fertile--boy, they wear me out (especially #2, AD/HD in the extreme)!! I work full-time as the director of a small non-profit. Between that and the kids, there's not much time for me. If I don't exercise at 5:30 am, I don't exercise. I am carrying about 30 lb more than I should, and I don't think I dropped any in that 221K--but I don't think I gained, either (I hate the scale and avoid it like the plague). My problem is stress eating--prowling the *** DELETE - SPAM *** at night once the kids are in bed. Hobbies? Yes, but no time for them right now.
My goal for January is to row at least 4 times a week (let's say, 20K per week) and track my food intake. I can't keep up my HC pace, as I need to get back to including strength training in my exercise program, and rowing was all I did for that month. Also I will start training for the cycling season, so I need to squeeze in a few indoor trainer workouts.
I'm already inspired by the posts I've read here. Good luck, all, on meeting your goals.

I relate to being an older parent (I'm 45), having an AD/HD toddler boy, and stress eating. It's great when you can make that time for yourself in the morning but anytime will do. Over the holidays my stress eating spiked--It took me a few years to figure out this was directly related to whether I got a rest from my AD/HD toddler during the day--so I think we can both pat ourselves on the back for just holding steady over the holidays. My kids (4, ages 4-11) are all back in school & daycare right now, and overnight we had out of town guests plus a birthday to celebrate yesterday (can you believe my 10-year old requested cheese and chocolate fondues? I've never cooked them before in my life!), so I rowed my quota for two days this afternoon (30 km--I'm beat). The house looks like a whirlwind after 2 weeks at home together but I'm giving my health priority over the mess.
And now, a quick but soothing bath before family and chaos return home...

Thanks for the history of what it is like to be a parent... I'll be filling in part-time for the next 2 weeks as chauffer/companion/crazy lady for 2 of my grandchildren. It always takes me at least a day to get my head into responsible adult mode.
Lets see, get them up, dressed, fed, remember vitamins, pack lunches, check bags for items to go back to school, ask about food preferences for dinner, don't let the kitten out while loading the kids into the car, remember to close the garage door, check their *** DELETE - SPAM *** for dinner ingredients, go to the store, don't forget to keep the cel phone on at all times...

Hi Margaret,
That's funny-my 11 year old requested the same birthday menu last week. Fortunately, I had made them before, so it was an easy dinner for me . Fortunately, because I had volunteered to deliver dinner to someone that day (I don't know how I failed to realize it was a birthday night), so I had to cook 2 dinners. One of my brothers made the birthday cake (besides chocolate fondue, my son also wanted cake and ice cream), so I got out of that job.

Sorry I'm late! I just couldn't find the instructions for signing up with a team. But I'm here and I've already been rowing meters that count toward our team's goal.
Last year this challenge was a lifesaver when I went overboard. This year my goal is to row 5 days a week. That shouldn't be too hard since I've been rowing 6 days a week during the Holiday Challenge. The overall goal is to lose 15 pounds for my 25th wedding anniversary in August. Wish me luck!

I just joined, yay!
No rowing today or yesterday due mostly to illness, but I'm on the mend and I hope to start my training tomorrow.
I resolve to row 3 times per week using the Weight Loss Plan I got from the UK Concept 2 site. I only got 13 weeks worth of workouts so I start with a small-ish commitment.
I'm also going to try a 12 week jogging program. I'm not sure how well that will go since jogging is a little hard but I figured it was worth trying out.
I don't have a kid or anything like that to distract me but I did just recently go back to school and between the commute, homework, and two lab classes this term I'm a little pressed for time. 3 times per week is probably my limit!
I didn't manage the holiday challenge this year for all kind of different real reasons and made-up excuses but I want to make this one happen.

It is hard enough at any time being shut up in the dark with nothing to do; but the prospect of being a human sacrifice at the end of it just made the whole situation incomparably worse.

I promised Susan I'd try to row 5 times a week, and it's really gotten me motivated to continue rowing this month. I am trying to get my 13-year old daughter to join our team, but no luck so far. She prefers Dance Dance Revolution to rowing any day.

Hello ladies! I am officially a Resolutions member now, thanks for being in charge Susan. I introduced myself in the Introduce yourself topic, but will be happy to do it again.

I joined DIAR in Dec. & completed my first HC! It was exciting because I had started training for a half marathon & I started having knee trouble. So about 2 weeks before, I had to stop. The HC came at a perfect time for me since I had to quit (don't like to quit!). I have been rowing for almost a year & hope to make the Mil Meter Club!
Just want to say I was very inspired reading all your postings & what group. I like how evryone cheers each other on & works togther, pretty good for a virtual team! I plan to row at least 4 days a week, hopefully between 6 & 10,000 meters each time. Here's to everyone-good luck & happy rowing!

Way to Row team! We have already put in 582,847 meters! WOW.
We are currently in 7th place overall and 2nd place in our "size" category of 21-50 members. We have 32 members.
Of course, the important part is not our ranking BUT each of us keeping our own resolutions. Each of us comes with different abilities, backgrounds and capabilities. SO keep your eye on keeping your own resolutions and don't worry if you aren't rowing as much as someone else. REMEMBER EVERY meter counts!
Someone wrote in their resolution that her goal was getting on the erg a certain number of days a week. (Sorry, I don't remember who wrote that). That idea has really helped me. With the schedule I have it is impossible to row as long as I want to row. SO my thinking in the past was that if I couldn't row for a certain number of minutes, why bother. I have to change that kind of thinking. Every bit I DO row is good for me! So even though it may be only 15-20 minutes at least I did it!
