Woo and Hoo!
After a mere three and a half weeks of erging, my resting heart rate is down 16 beats per minute. I wasn't paying attention, but my physician was. She wanted to know what I was doing because ...
That surely helps me overcome the "my progress is much too slow" blahs !!

First row 3/13/06
This reminded me to check again.
....
I've testing about 30 times now. im on average 70 beats per minute.
This makes no sense. I've been rowing for 2 year, which is about 1000 hours with 1.4 million m since november.
Why am I so high?
...And this isn't just a fluke, i've always had high heart rates. on the erg and while resting. Is this a cardio problem? What other tests can I do?

Try doing some longer workouts? Everyone is different, so maybe thats the perfect pulse for your bosy.csabour wrote:This reminded me to check again.

It's DOWN 16 beats/minute. It isn't 16 bpm! she would be almost dead at that rate!jbell wrote:16!! What was it before?? Mine used to be ~60 (over the summer) and now its around mid 50's. Maybe by senior year it will be under 50

Try Higher intensity
My heart rate didn't go down despite long hours of cardio (biking, running, rowing). It went down when I bumped up the intensity. I now do less volume but higher intensity. I also recommend "easy day/hard day"csabour wrote:This reminded me to check again.

Sasha, mine is about the same as yours ~65 bpm. I'm 64. It used to be about 75-80. I generally do long sessions with generally a fairly slow split. At our age no matter how you erg you are ahead of about 90% of the ageing population

Congrats are definitely in order.
I've always wondered if a person with a higher Max HR (mine has been tested 3 times and is around 205) would have a naturally higher resting heart rate (mine is around 62 bpm). Seems logical to me. At the same time, I have low blood pressure (avg 90/60's with resting 80/50's). Have always wondered how that plays in to the scheme of things.
Each person is different. Oh, and I'm 49 yrs old
