We also hope to post the results of the US Team on this forum as we get them. Stay tuned.

Best wishes to the Team. Even though an erg race is not in the same league as a battle between the forces of the British and the French, perhaps these words from Henry V (as put into his mouth by Shakespeare) will help to inspire:

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks

Give nothing less nor more than your best. For yourselves, and for those of us who cheer you on and would willingly be there with you. It will surely be a time to remember!

Two more racers have finished:

Emily Eiffert, 1st place, 7:17.5
Noah Bruegmann, 4th place, 6:28.3

Noah rowed in the lightweight U23 instead of J18 as there was no lightweight J18 race. He was only 1.5 seconds from finishing 3rd.

Congratulations to all.

A special pat on the back to Jonathon Bone for shaking off a serious bout of the flu to rally for a Gold! And another to Dennis Hastings for once again living in the mental pressure cooker that the 50+ lwts division has become and coming through with a class performance as usual.

Every race surely has a story. I hope that the team will share them here.

Would that I could have rowed a 6:24 -- I think I was actually 6:34.8. But I'll keep the medal....

Many thanks to everyone for making EIRC 2006 a great experience. To all my teammates, a rousing well done

for great efforts under rather difficult erging conditions. We acquitted ourselves well, I think. By my count we came home with six golds and four silvers, which IMO is outstanding. Thus I count myself proud to have been a small part of a great success. As for stories, I'll content myself for now with one representative image I'll remember for a long time: US rowing legend Carrie Graves graciously and repeatedly urging on a faltering competitor from the erg, while rowing in the middle of her race....

Others deserving mention: To Nereus RC (sp?) and the Dutch organizers, a rousing THANK YOU for hosting a great event. And a great competitors' dinner afterwards. To Linda Muri, thank you for the unflagging optimism, the calmly helpful pre-race/race-day advice and not least the cheering -- I'm surprised you could talk afterwards, but then again you are a coach and are probably used to yelling. I for one appreciated the encouragement. To Larry Gluckman, special thanks for the workouts and preparation hints, they were much appreciated. It's too bad you couldn't be there in person to watch it all work out. Special thanks to C2Lisa and C2Brickett (and C2Scott, come to think of it), for shepherding us through.

It can't have been easy, especially with so many lightweights on board this year ....

And finally, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say thanks to C2 the company for sponsoring this year's US IRT. What a great way to showcase this silly little obsession of ours we call indoor rowing....

What a great time in Amsterdam thanks for all help and guidance (through the metro and tram system as well) It was lovely for me to have time to just hang out.

I'm not really good at this posting thing but here goes.....

I am so proud to have been a part of the the Dev training squad, and then selected to participate on the team in Amsterdam. It was a tremendous opportunity, and I thank Concept 2 for allowing me to be a part of it.

To my team-mates and "brothers in arms" you are an outstanding group of people. It was GREAT meeting you and I look forward to a reunion at CRASH B's - that is if Dennis can dig his way out???

To Lisa, Brickett, Linda - we couldn't have done it without you. The time, planning, the encouraging words, race plans, ice cream . . . . .

Hey I tried to send you a private message a couple days ago (via the private message option) to let you know that I believe you paid for my Novotel banquet dinner -19 Euros. It was on the room bill. When I checked out, the front desk said you had already paid for it.

Ice cream?!

In retrospect, the trip to Europe was probably worth doing a 2K. It was great to meet everyone, and Jocelyn always enjoys listening to rowers talk about rowing (maybe if I get her on the erg she'll eventually understand...).

See you all in Boston. You can refill on stroopwaffles at Trader Joe's!
