He set the eight year old C2 record for a 1hr peice (just over 7K) It's exciting, he won't go to bed because he has to erg. And me, the rower, I'm not quite to 50,000... and that is with a half marathon and a 20,000 meter peice (today) The most I've ever erged in one sitting before.
Needless to say, I'm very proud of my little brother!
Congratz to the lil guy, and also to you for your biggest row yet!

I was bored today and made an excel spreadsheet for that extra little bit of motivation (I cant help it- I'm a geek).
If you want to track your progress on the challenge download it here:
http://subroc.net/Holiday_Challenge_2006.xls
Modify Columns A and B to suit your needs. Play around and put numbers in column A to see how the results total. Enjoy.
This is pretty neat - I'm a geek in sheep's clothing - love to mess around with numbers, no idea whatsoever what I'm doing. I do like playing with Excel, but can't justify the time it would take me to create this little chart when C2 does all the work for me - except for figuring out how far ahead or behind I am. Thanks for sharing it!

Oh yeah - I'm ahead of schedule by 4450m - whoo-hoo!

Can't be on the water today so I'll probably doing around 15000-20000 today around 2:20 avg splits... either that or a shorter row and a 2k peice.

My little brother is pretty happy with himself! It's exciting to see his enthuiasm. I didn't tell him that there were only 2 others logged in.

The model D arrived in Southern California last night around midnight, and is making it's way up here tonight.

It should be here tomorrow. :D

That's what I plan to do tomorrow. Maybe 18k starting in the low 2:20s and edging down toward 2:15 the last 6k.

Previously, I've approached the Holiday Challenge as a series of time trials, but this year is different. First, I've been off the water since early August, so my fitness level is low. Second, my little dog Beatrix died the day after Thanksgiving, so my motivation level is low.

I'm at 83k rowing long slow pieces on alternate days.

Check those assembly instructions again.

John,

I'm curious as to what led you decide to go with a Model D/PM3? You have been quite vocal about not being happy with the changes made since the Model B, and double so with the changes since the PM2. Will this be your first direct experience with the Model D?

I haven't checked in on Mr. Rupp's messages for quite some time, so I don't know quite what has been going on. I am very surprised to learn from this quote that he has purchased another C2 product. As I remember, in the past, he had been quite virtiolic in his castigation of both the company and its products. Why on earth is he still doing business with them of he thinks so little of them?

Hence the reason for my query. B)

Are you taking on the Holiday Challenge? How about your Daughter, still have her excited about the Erg? My wife and I are trying to keep up the daily average, should be just on par today, after getting a delayed start during the Holiday week.

Having committed the indiscretion of announcing a workout before it was accomplished, I will now report results:

18,000m divided into thirds (6k splits).

first third -------- 28:02.4/2:20.2
middle third ----- 27:40.0/2:18.3
final third -------- 26:45.5/2:12.0

TOTAL ----------- 82:06.9/2:16.9

I probably should have started a little faster, but as I mentioned in the earlier post, fitness is an unknown so I set out at a conservative pace.

Good for you, Kinley. :D

The model D came this afternoon. Yippee!

I checked it out and rowed for 30 minutes, will post about it on a different thread.

I'm following the IP and it was a low volume week. Still, I've passed 130K so feel confident that I'll make the challenge.

I am not sure what "taking" the HC means. If there is a formal signup, no I didn't bother with it. If it just means checking my log book to see what my progress is, then, yes, I am doing that and was pleased to hit the 100k mark today (and also the 4 million mark in my log book, which goes back just about 3 years).

My daughter picked up my old model B last April, but she never did get it set up in the house they were living in at the time. Then they moved (from AZ to NY) and I haven't heard whether or not she has set it up at the new place. Probably not or she would made a point of telling me. Considering that they now live in the icebox part of that state (i.e. the west end near Buffalo) they had better get at it to have something to do when they are snowbound.

Congratulations John! Let us know how you like the D. I have been rowing on them at the boathouse, and learned to like many of the features of the PM3 while using the boathouse ergs. I just got the PM3 for my model C last Friday. My kids have already decided that the "fish" game is way too cool, and are wondering why I didn't get the upgrade long ago! Try the fish game after your usual workout, its a pretty low stress way to pack on some more HC meters, and good for some grins and giggles.

Thanks, Pam,

I like the D quite a bit already but it will take awhile to get used to some of the features. There are quite a few things that I like, the color, the fan cage, quietness, greater range of df's, the pace boat, force curve, and saved favorites etc.
