PM4 - Flickering screen

Post by dot520 » December 2nd, 2006, 4:36 pm

I'm getting vertical line flickering that is very noticeable when the Lifetime meters block is shown. It's mainly a thin single line about 1" from the right side. When I'm on the rowing screens, I can see a faint flickering of lines throughout. This does not impede my viewing of any data, just wondering if it's normal. The lower the contrast number, the greater it is noticeable. I noticed it today for the first time, so maybe it just started doing this.

I've unplugged the few items in the room that may be sending a signal or a radio wave??? (stereo, phone, that sort of thing).

This monitor has less than 5 hours on it. Just got it 11/16/06 fyi

What type of room lighting do you have? Incandescent? Fluorescent? Mercury vapour? Other?

I've noticed this effect when the PM3s and PM4s are illuminated by low frequency lighting. It's a feechur that could only be solved by having the LCD backlit (which isn't part of the current design).

Try illuminating it from the front with a desk lamp or an incandescent spot light. Or get your fluorescent lights changed for the high frequency versions.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure if I was clear in my original post. It's coming from the monitor screen, not from the room itself as in flickering flourescent lights.

Would this give me the same reply because it's sunlit, with windows at 270 degrees 12' high....no artificial lighting during the day. Just as if the erg were sitting outdoors.

Possibly a bad LCD display. Conctact Concept2 for support and options for repair. Is the flickering line always in the same place no matter what screen you're on?

I checked that link and it appears to be referring to either high or low frequency with magnetic ballasts.

I'm not sure what the difference in those is, but have been using electronic ballasts for the last 25 years. I'd highly recommend electronic ballasts for fluorescent lights, and also full spectrum lighting where possible.

There is no hum or flickering with electronic ballasts.

They last a long longer, the lights come on instantly, and their lifetime is also much longer.
