Well I ordered a model D yesterday, and this morning the model B went ka-poot.
Good timing!
Anyway I am happy this happened before selling it!
I was rowing along at a 2:05 pace, when all of a sudden there was no resistance on the drive and I went flying to the back. Most of all I felt this in my hands. So I slowed down, it seemed okay, I sped back up and it happened again. I was wondering if the chain was slipping but it felt more like the cogwheel was slipping. I sped back up and WHAMMO it happened again, this time jamming my fingers, so I stopped, went in a called C2 to see what they thought. I had rowed 4 minutes at this pace with nothing happening, then it happened 3 times in 30 seconds. I'd done some sprints a few days ago. Fortunately it didn't happen with those!
The person at C2 asked me about the chain and cogwheel. I had replaced these 3 or 4 years ago, then rowed for 2 years on a model C, so they should still be in good shape. I think the chain and cogwheel last a long time, and I had many more meters on the originals than on these.
So it appears to be the "roller clutch bearing". I ordered 1 of these and 4 R8 bearings which came to $18.60 with shipping. Not bad. However now the cage will need to be taken apart, and I'll need to take it to a bike shop so they can take out the old bearings and put in the new ones. Apparently they have an "arbor press" that does this easily and (hopefully) won't cost very much. Then the model B should be working again, and I'll have the peace of mind knowing it is being sold in top condition for the buyers.
In the meantime, I won't be able to row any more meters for the Holiday Challenge. But the new machine should be here in a week, so I will take up then and still aim for the 200k.
In the meantime, keep adding up the meters and have fun.
