Congratulations John, I don't understand it, but I respect it!

Good work all on the CTC. I haven't done it for fear of failure. For some reason my brain still belives I should be getting faster, even after several months off. :o
(I had thoughts of catching Trevor, until his strong performance on his recent row.)

Lorri, the Nonathlon site is another motivational/informal competition type site. The folks who have set it up have done a great job. It weighs a bunch of results from years past and sorts it all out by your age and weight group.

John, I almost forgot. Unseasonably warm temperatures here in south central Ontario. 9 and light drizzle right now (7 PM), high of 13 later in the week. B)

Later,

Congratulations John for your 100k! You are amazing!

You are right that the erg is quite unique in allowing such a feat to be accomplished with little risk of injuring oneself.

Congrats also for your 2K for the CTC!

Cheers,

Hi Kirk

Thanks so much for the nonathlon site, I had never seen it before. Nice idea.

And let me also take the opportunity to rub it in to those poor westerners by noting the unseasonably wonderful weather here today and tomorrow -- +10, +12. :D

(Yes, I know, the payback will come.)

Absolutely astounding effort Francois. Actually all you lot in Boat 1 always amaze me.

I suspect I may not be long in boat 2 as Dan is only 1.7 seconds behind me (I can feel his breath on my neck). This would be the time to strike as I have committed to two surgeries and am on call this week so there is no way I can do a repeat effort before the challenge ends. Go Dan go

Those of us in Western Canada will be thinking of you in July and August when the Humidex is something we will only experience in a sauna.

Incredible row Francois!!! I'm not surprised though. You have been rowing really well this year and this time fits right in with your other fast times. Are you looking at going to any of the "Live" races, possibly the Canadian Indoor Championships? I hope you do so that an Eh Teamer can kick their butts!!!. You must be in the time neighborhood for a 2k that could get you a free trip to Boston? Once again, WELL DONE! John.

Thank you all for the congrats!

John, I don't know at this point if I'll go to CIRC. My priority is still swimming, so I am relunctant to spend two weeks tapering for that race. Also, I am suppose to go through surgery for an hernia in February.
The qualifying time for 40-49 lwt is 6:29.2. When I turn 50, things will look much better since the qualifying time is 6:44. Isn't it amazing that when we compete, we look forward to getting older!

I haven't been erging much in the last two weeks because of a leg injury. To add insult to injury (no pun intented), I've also got a cold! :(
In better conditions (I also had a hard 2 hours swim workout in the morning) and better pacing, I could have been a good 5 seconds faster. That would be 12 seconds slower than the WR for the 50-54 lwt. Who knows what two years of hard training could bring!
I better stop now before sounding like Ranger!

BTW, do you loose weight when you stop erging? I was 154 lbs two weeks ago, and now I am down to 152

Cheers!

My congrats too Francois, well done!
And team we are over 40,000,000 meters! Well done again.

I do NOT lose weight when I stop erging. Haven't been on the erg in 3 days what with the snow storms, delayed planes, getting back to work etc. I would not dare weigh myself now.

Keep on rowin', eh.

Trevor, I think you earned this one. That must have been a very good row for you. I don't think I'll try to sneak my way into Boat 2 while you're in surgery.

Very impressive, Francois. I don't think you sound at all like Ranger. All the same, I think next time you should try it without the handcuffs and blindfold.

We are now into Chile. Looks like another beautiful place that I must go and visit sometime.

Our boat seems to have picked up speed and :? ,gulp, dare I say it, my guess may be wrong!

Keep on rowin', eh.

Thank you for your detailled description of your 100k, John! I was wondering how someone would survive such a huge distance. With your story I'm even more in awe!
danwho wrote:So how about a poll guessing the next team member to try the 100K - I'm betting Brigitte.

Thanks for your vote of confidence, Dan, but I doubt that I would be able to do something like that. The longest piece I have ever rowed in a piece was the FM back in April, when my legs felt pretty much like failing on the last meters. And just imagining doing almost 2.5 times the distance .... But, in the words of the (REAL!) James Bond: "Never say never!"

Shannon, great to see you in the boat again! :) How did your Marathon Training work out?

Lorri, I always thought that Canada was colder than hereabouts, sounds like you almost have spring ... :)

Thanks for the "historical notes" about the original voyageurs, Jim! Our boat has really picked up some speed since then, and if everybody keeps rowing like that, we will arrive in Vermont before we even know it!

Great time on the 2k, Francois! Congrats!

I will be a lot away from home during the Holiday Challenge (business trips, etc.), but I hope I can sneak in enough meters on the days in-between to make the 200k anyway.

:? Thanks for the welcome. It's a challenge to see if I can keep it up, but the first week went well. If I can keep it up, I'll finish Feb.1. My 3 daughters are all trying to earn their HC T-shirts with a 50k--maybe we'll need a family photo shoot.

Next I'll try to figure out how to enter today's 2k for C2C. Is that something I initiate? Not as good as 2 years ago, but a PB for this year since I slacked off from April through October. I don't want to lose more speed so I'm planning on very slow rows every other day.

Hi Margaret,
I think you still have time to get your 2k time in. Now that it's Dec. the challenge has changed to a 5k race, but there is a switch over time that the last months score can still be added. I thought it was up to three days, does anyone know?
Anyway, the sooner the better. You do initiate it yourself. On the upper right side of the c2ctc site there is a space where you can sign up and enter your score. You just have to sign up for the first month then your name is automatically on the list for the next month. The only tricky part about signing up is the password. The first time you do it put in c2ctc as the password. You can change it after that if you want to.
That is great that your daughters are doing the Holiday Challenge. My son is doing it too (although he's getting a late start  .) He is also part of the Eh Team so that his meters help us get around the world. It does make for a nice family activity, eh?
Good luck with your meters goal and welcome aboard!!! John.

ps. I just heard on the radio yesterday that this was the coldest November on record for the Yukon and last Saturday's minus 41 C was the coldest temperature ever recorded for this month, Brrrrr. I've heard that the prairies are socked in with cold now, is that right?

pss. Good job Rob on getting into the CTC boat early for Dec. Great time too!
