Music With a Beat
I usuallly like a very heavy "grind", typical of Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden, although my private, at home, taste runs toward classical and piano jazz. The highest 60' record that I could find from 2002 through 2007 was 18128m. Are you claiming a new WR? Trippy, indeed!vladcole wrote:I've taken to watching music DVDs while rowing. I highly recommend the Moby "Play" DVD. The remixed version has some really trippy visuals... you can get yourself into a trance and wake up an hour later... with 20k meters down.

No, I'm not claiming a new world record.
Just got sloppy with the numbers. I should have known better; I won't post again without calculating exact splits.

Sorry, Vlad. I didn't mean to come across as so nasty. I knew what you meant in the context of the original message. I just couldn't resist a little needling — what with your references to "trippy" visuals and getting into a trance. It made me think of the sixties. I think that it really does help to find something that occupies the mind enough to dull the boredom of a long piece without diverting the focus needed to maintain a steady rate and pace. I find myself in that happy condition on rare occasions and envy those who can achieve this on a regular basis.vladcole wrote:No, I'm not claiming a new world record.

I support Igoeja's selections of Soundgarden, STP, Pearl Jam! I've augmented those "grunge" tracks with some newer Audioslave songs; I can listen to those albums straight through, or until I hit my meter-goal for the day. I guess I'm a metal/grunge/alternative/rock fan...so my apologies if this list doesn't pique your interest. They sure keep me going; I press shuffle and play and then hit it. I hope some of these are useful.
Maybe Tomorrow - Stereophonics
Move Along - All American Rejects
Shadow of The Sun - Audioslave
Like A Stone - Audioslave
Machinehead - Bush
Fuel - Metallica
Enter Sandman - Metallica
Whiskey In The Jar - Metallica
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
Come As You Are - Nirvana
Jump - Van Halen
When I Come Around - Green Day
Bring Me To Life - Evanescence
Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Soul To Squeeze - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Better Now - Collective Soul
Dragula - Rob Zombie

First post for me. I subscribe to Rhapsody music service and stream music through my computer (with good speakers and subwoofer) while I'm rowing. I've listened to lots of albums, most recently new releases by Eric Clapton and JJ Cale, Vince Gill, Bob Dylan, Jerry Douglas. Listening to new music gives me a focus away from the PM4. Rhapsody suggests music based on my past selections and many of the suggestions are right down my alley but things I would not have thought of.
I also video taped the view out the stern of my Whitehall pulling boat while doing a few hours on Lake Champlain starting at the mouth of the Otter Creek and rowing out past Diamond Island and over to Kingsland Bay. I'm going to do more of this because its fun to pretend you are on the water when you are in the room over the garage pulling on the chain. I row at about 28 spm in my rowboat and it goes slower than the meters shown on the erg since it does not have a sliding seat, but I ignore that. The sound of the oars in the rowlocks and gulls and geese are nice to focus on also. I set up a 25" tv next to the flywheel, but a bigger screen would make it easier to "suspend my disbelief".
