I just popped in to the duck pond to say hello. With training, work and driving the kids around, I have mostly been lurking.

It's nice to see all the new Ducks in the pond. We now have 131. It's great to see our numbers grow. Keep up the good work Ducks!

Carole, have a great row at BIRC. We'll be cheering for you. OK. I will probably be sleeping...

Grams, how is your recovery going. I have one of those things you put your bike on to make it an stationary bike. Not as fun as the erg but you can pass time by surfing the internet or playing chess.

I did a mile for the CTC yesterday. My training is going well. I am hoping to get a 10K in soon.

Congrats to Tigger2 for (almost) lightweight status. I remember havinga great time when I got below 135. I had the time of my life rerowing all the events on the Nonathlon and seeing my ranking zoom up because I had gone from heavy to lightweight!

If you haven't tried participating in the Nonathlon http://www.nonathlon.com/ give it a go. Its wonderful for a morale boost. It also pushed me to try a range of times and distances depending on my mood each day.

I am bonding well with my 'augmented' knee. I am well ahead of the recovery curve for most folks, no matter what age. I'm back on the erg for 10 minustes a day of moderate exertion (both legs equally) and I got a Schwinn stationary bike for cross-training. I had to add a sit-up session too until I can do 1/2 hour on the erg, so that my core muscles wouldn't fade away totally. I havea bad back and the erg is what keeps it from hurting.

My grandson is rowing in the Head of the Charles this weekend, I think it is his 5th year there. I'm going to try to stream the media (if it is available) watching and rowing along.

Go Carole at BIRC!!

Whew! Just popping in for a bit. Things have been crazy for me. I quit my job, moved to WA, and am back in school. It's amazing how tiring walking around school is; the walk between the parking lot and my car and half the campus being on a slight incline from where ever I am has left me just tired.

I don't have a good rowing place but I cleared out some space in the garage (where all my stuff is while I stay with a friend and look around) and am planning to start some light/slow rowing soon. I'm hoping to add in some upper body weight work (my legs feel like they are getting enough of a workout) soon too.

I can already tell my new base level of exercise is having an effect, my clothes feel a little looser (I took measurements but my scale is in storage). I'm hoping that once I can get my eating under control (bad food service but I just got a nice bento thermos for taking lunches), this will speed up a little.

Whee!

I'm happy with all these changes I've made but man, it takes some getting used to.
It is hard enough at any time being shut up in the dark with nothing to do; but the prospect of being a human sacrifice at the end of it just made the whole situation incomparably worse.

Been forever since I've been on here. Lots going on here. I searched for, and bought a house. Fixed it up for almost 2 months before moving in, went on vacation to Florida, came back and ended up with bursitis in my hip, and am just now getting back to rowing. The hip still bothers me, I really have to be careful how I sit, and lay. Rowing may be helping, but i'm taking it slow until I know for sure. In between I am still working the two jobs, starting a 1 night a week class this week, and the boyfriend has been sick for a while with GI probs. Whew! I'm gonna need the rowing for sure to keep me sane!

Love the house, but the only spot for the rower is the laundry room. Its a bit of a drag. I'd always been able to put it near a t.v., and that helped me row longer a lot. I get bored quickly. Any ideas? :?:

Resolved to get back on the erg yesterday, row or other exercise for 2400 cal/week, get ready for the Holiday Challenge. So far, so good--40 minutes on the erg yesterday and 45 today. It has been so long (since August!) I felt it a bit in my arms today (well, and of course the seat felt harder by the end of the row), but I'm easing back in. Right now I can't imagine sprinting a 2k. Maybe I should try on the first and last day of the HC--something to keep my rows from getting monotonous.

Not freezing where I'm at-we are having record rains and warm brisk breezes. They call it the pineapple express. Beautiful tropical wind from the islands that streams across the Pacific, picking up about half the ocean with it, and then it all dumps on us in the Pacific northwest.

I'm wearing my BIRC sweatshirt today. It would be great fun to go and watch, however we had done our trip across the pond this year already. We don't have any Indian restaurants here to compare to the ones in Birmingham. Oh, yes, this was about being trim and fit wasn't it?

What training do regimen do you do to get ready? One of the standard ones full of abbreviations and intervals, or one of your own? I can't manage anything very intense now, however I am hoping to get back to something more structured in the next few months. I have been forced to add situps to my shortened erg sessions in order to get a bit more of a workout without overworking my knee. Sigh.

Tshirt design(s) are coming along. They won't be ready in time for BIRC this year, however perhaps you will be able to get one at Crash-Bs. The shipping to the UK is a bit pricy.

Hey Grams,

Did you get much flooding up in Bellevue? It was crazy yesterday (and today)! Luckily I just live about five minutes from work, with no flooded areas, but those that had a commute, I think that the parking lot was almost empty by 4:30.

I'm also trying to get back into shape for the Holiday Challenge. I haven't been motivated enough to get an actual training plan together, I'm just trying to row for at least 30 minutes a day, working up to about 45 minutes. I need to get something more formal together though (with intervals and more intensive pieces) so that I can burn more calories and get my last 5 - 10 lbs off!

We are coping just fine. Lots of water in the yard, but we are dry. I'm pretty much retired, just one client now, and now I work at home. I used to work for the county and also the city of Bellevue. My specialty was hydraulics, drainage, wetlands, and erosion control.

The last couple of days have been perfect to check on any property you might have been considering buying. If its dry now it will always be dry... I used to consider weather like this as job security.

Hey there, Ducks!

Been awhile since I've splashed in the Pond, but here I am!

Carole, I *loved* those pics!! Great job! :D I'll have to see if I can get my picture of me wearing a squirrel outfit posted around here somewhere.

See some familiar names are still around. I've been busy--decided to be completely psycho and go back to graduate school. Still working at the family planning clinic as a nurse practitioner, aka "Pap Woman." But, I'm determined to hit my 200K for the HC! I only have about 16K left after today. Heading towards my 3rd million as well. Still stuck at the 40 pound weight loss with 50 more to go, too. Dang.

Grams, I love the T-shirt design with all of the colorful ducks!
