I was wondering what session to do today to prepare for a fast 1k tomorrow. After much agonizing, I decided that, like Mr. NavigationHazard, I would row a 500metre PB in preparation for a 1k PB.
I set off at PB pace because I didn’t want to leave too much on the erg with tomorrow well, tomorrow.
I rowed 1:28 pace until 100 left and sprinted hard.
Result….
500m – 40spm – 1:27.3
New PB.
Pleased with that.

Today is Friday, so it was time to crank out another PB/WR. This time it was a 10k. I managed to knock off exactly 30 seconds off my previous best, from 44:22.3 to 43:52.3. The first one was already under both the LWT and HWT records that go back to 1999.
I have been working out on the erg only two days a week this month – on Mondays and Fridays and each one has been a PB and/or WR of some sort. The 30’ piece qualifies only as a “post-op” PB, since I did do 30 and 60 minutes pieces, as well as 2.5ks and 2ks a decade ago. Some of these new times beat the HWT records as well as the LWT records. I also have three season records from February. The only old events left on my agenda are the 60 minute, done last Oct. 23, and the HM, done on Dec. 10. I may try to redo those two before the season is over, but I doubt that I will try to extend this every Friday and Monday madness.

never really doe a 500m piece before (i.e. all out fly 'n' die pace)
i started off @ 1:32.5 and ended up with a time of 1:35.1 not that its a bad time, i know i could have done better, as i was distracted by my mother standing behind me (she said something and i yelled at her to please go away) the fastest i think i hade ever done one before was around 1:37.0- 1:38.0 range
so i guess this is a PR 1:35.1/500m
