Folks:

There is a Beta edition of the Transfer Utility for Windows available. It is completely made-over, with a bunch of new features and a new GUI interface.

To download, please go to ftp.concept2.com, browse to “public” folder. This version will be available only for a limited time.

As usual, please know that this is a "Beta" and there may be errors. Before installing, Concept2 recommends that you backup your computer. After installing, you should do is BACKUP YOUR LOGCARD TO A FILE (or copy the logcard to another card!) and then store that away somewhere! Please heed the warning that you need a BLANK logcard to overwrite when using the “Move User” feature.

Feel free to provide feedback to me, preferrably by email or by posting to this thread (see my profile for address).

- Scott

Downloaded the beta , installed it as non-administrator using the administrator-account [ RUN AS (?) ] ; installed it "for all users" , "only for PM3".

The program installed OK , after dis-installing the previous version ( logcard-files were not removed ).
After the install it gave the options read manual and/or run program.

I let it run the program, and it run in administrator mode.

Did a "Maintain LogCard" "Save LogCard data to file" and it made a backup of the logcard and said something like "Card has errors - can be repaired".
So I let it repair and the program rewrote the LogCard - OK.

Did a "Transfer Data" Transfer LogCard data to spreadsheet" and it made a CSV file - OK.

Did the same again and it noticed the file was already there and asked me ".... Do you want to overwrite?"
Changed the filename and it made a new file - OK ( the previous version just rewrote the old file ).

Pressed "I" and Help appeared - OK.

Ended the program and started it again, this time not as administrator.

Pressed "I" and Help did not appear. It asked me which program to start - choose IE - no luck.

Did a "Maintain LogCard" "Save LogCard data to file" - OK
Did a "Transfer Data" Transfer LogCard data to spreadsheet" - OK

Cannot find my spare LogCard so more testing has to wait.

P.S.
Just a thought about entering filenames : the latest versions of Excel and Word (e.a.) let you overtype the filenames after pressing the "insert" key so it is more easy to change "PM3LogCard.20051104.1929.lcb" to "PM3LogCard.20051105.1428.lcb". This is not possible here.

BIG BUG

Installed the utility again, on the rowing-partition of my dual-boot PC.

Just before it I was using RowPro and forgot to close that.

After the install the LogCardUtility could not connect to the PM3 and gave the message "PM3 version before 90" or something like that.
Only buttons available "OK" ; and the close window "X".

Using either of these did not help in closing the LCU : in the task-manager of windows the number of LCU's climbed and climbed.

So I killed the LCU ; and I closed RowPro.

Started the LCU again , it could connect to the PM3 , but not to the logcard , and the same problem occurred.

I had to kill the LCU again and restart the PC to get the LCU working.

Minor annoyance : every time a new type of file is made using the LCU the path to the file is set to the initial path : "...../my documents/Concept2/PM3 LogCard Data".

BTW : who authorised the LCU to make this directory ?

Total of three backups per drive for nine backups. Won't do the beta in case of a computer crash. Takes a week to recover.

Thanks for the testing and the feedback!

Indeed prior to the beta release we did not test limited users, or even different users. We will look into this soon.

As far as creating directories: The old version also created Concept2/LogCard data, just as the venue racing softare creates a Concep2/VeuneRace (and ot her)directorys to store it's files. So, it was logical that we continue this tradition. Although it may not be working correctly (we'll have to test), you should be able to change the directory and it should be stickey.

We generally do not test with all third party applications running at the same time: we reccomend that you do not run other applications for the Pm3 at the same time. However, we should make sure it gracefully exits. We will take a look at this.

-- Scott
Hi Scott

It was good to see you (and shout "Hi!") in Birmingham at the weekend.

I just thought I'd let you know that we've found a source for the Cardman 3121 in the UK http://www.smartcardfocus.com/shop/ilp/ ... tml

I've ordered one (for ~£27) as my Xmas prezzie to me from me.

Scott

I'd like to ask what data the LogCard actually stores from a rowing session. I'm about to invest in a card and card reader as found by Citroen for the purpose of bringing data home from the gym and logging it to PC. Are there any specs for the LogCard Data?

Cheers
Adrian
