Head of the Charles

Post by canoeist » October 31st, 2006, 4:21 pm

How many ergers were at the Head of the Charles nine days ago? We had perfect weather here in Boston for the race. I had the good fortune to see the race from #6 seat in a +50 men's eight. It was a fantastic ride!

Photos from our race. http://www.row2k.com/hotc/photo.cfm?act ... hts&hi=yes

After the race, I bicycled along the race course and stopped by the Concept tent to talk to Peter D. and see the new high rise erg with the wireless monitor.

Cheers,

Hey Paul,

Nice pictures, especially the closeup. I missed you because I work on Saturdays. Went down on Sunday and stopped by the C2 booth for chats with BillP, KCColt, PeterD, Lisa Washburn & Brickett Bailey.

I also stopped by the the Harvard boathouse and paid homage to the giant photo of the Rude & Smooth. :D

Best of luck with the toy season.

Agree! Very nice photo! I hope you're sending the "postcard" of the close-up to all of your friends & relations via e-mail!

Good luck w/ the holiday toy season.

Hi Paul,

Cool close-up picture!

I was there - in your race - bow 28. We were a 60+ y/o boat competing for a "Special Medal" within your 50+ event.

You guys looked pretty good and should be pleased with your finish, no? 19 of 37, right? Not bad!

Hope the business is going like gangbusters.

I have been doing a 5k test every month for the development squad. Unfortunately, my times are all around 17:30 this year as opposed to 17:00 last year. I feel all the on water coaching (combined with some specific erg work) has helped me get more leg into the stroke, but my times are much slower. (3 seconds in pace)

I have gained about ten pounds since last year. I think that my leg muscles must be more dense because the rest of me is all skin and bones like usual. The problem during my tests is that I fatigue way too soon at the given pace and I have to settle for a 1:45 pace instead of 1:42.

I hope to do a 2k this month as part of the Cross Team Challenge. I don't have much hope of doing a fast time. My one mile (1609 m) tests were at a much slower pace than my former 2K pace. Something has changed and I am not sure of the root cause.

Cheers,

Paul Flack
