LogCard / USB error: More than one PM device detected

Post by mclee » October 14th, 2006, 10:23 pm

I have a Model D + PM3 (firmware 97), and I'm trying to get it to communicate with a Mac PowerBook G4 (OS X 10.4.8) with the PM3 LogCard Utility Ver 4.04. The LogCard currently has two users and three workouts total on it.

I open up the LogCard application on my Mac, turn on the PM3 (with the LogCard in), go to the main menu on the PM3, then connect the USB cable to the PM3 and my Mac. I get an error:

"LogCard Binary: More than one PM device detected - not supported"

and if I hit [OK] (the only choice in the dialog box), it gives:

"PMDevice: Error reading card. The operation is canceled."

Hitting [OK] again, the icons in the lower left of the LogCard utility window now shows an X through the PM3, but no X through the LogCard.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!! - Mike

What happens if you do things in a different sequence?
  1. Connect the PM3 USB (doing that should get the PM3 to power up automatically)
  2. Start the Logcard utility
  3. Insert the logcard

Maybe the problem has to do with other USb devices , disconnect any other USB ( no not your mouse, or keyboard ) And try again!
Hope this helps!!

Good luck!!

I tried a couple of other sequences:

plug in -> start utility -> insert logcard
start utility -> plug in -> insert logcard

but still no luck. Nothing else is plugged into my Mac ...

One other thing ... when I plug in the USB cable, the LogCard utility says in the lower left corner "PM3 is in unknown state". This is the case regardless of whether I plug in then start the utility, or vice versa.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I guess one other thing for me to try is to remove and reinstall the LogCard utility ... you never know ...

One interesting point is that the page at
http://www.concept2.com/us/support/soft ... ysreqs.asp
only mentions OS X 10.4.2. So you may be in unsupported / leading edge territory.

If re-installing doesn't work an e-mail to scotth @ concept2.com would be the next logical action (in case he doesn't see this on the forum).

???
This what's on the URL
works great on my 10.3.9 running om a G5
Macintosh
OS X (10.3 Panther or 10.4 Tiger)
Working USB Port to connect PM3 or external card reader (when using the PM3 with the LogCard Utility, a USB cable is also needed)
PM with Firmware Version 90 or above
Note: The PM must be upgraded to Version 90 or above on a Windows PC prior to use with a Macintosh.
Optional: Athena ASE IIIe External LogCard Reader
Optional: OmniKey CardMan 3121 Card Reader available from Concept2
Optional: Internet connection to support automatic update features
works great on my 10.3.9 running om a G5
So I think the OS is not the problem,
Am I sure?, No!
Could be the cable. I remember reading something about that one.

That page is very confusing. In the requirements it says:

PM with Firmware Version 90 or above.

In the summary table it says:

Must update to Firmware Version 97 first, then can use a Mac to install future firmware updates.

O.K. Which is it? 90 or 97? Another question: Is the firmware something inherent in the PM? If so, how can I find out what version I have? If it isn't in the PM, is it something that I was supposed to have installed in my computer and, if so, how do I do it?

Bob,

You need 90 for using with the logcard utility with the Mac.

You need 97 when you want to update future releases of the firmware without having the need of a Windowsmachine.

Just update to 97 and you're fine.

In short--
FW90: to use a PM on a Mac,
FW97: to upgrade a PM on a Mac.

"Firmware" is the software that runs inside the PM. You run a PC application called a "firmware updater" and it downloads the new software to the monitor over USB, making new features and bug fixes available.

I believe FW90 was the first version that would work at all on the Mac. FW97 was the first version that can be updated via the LogCard Utility 4.x.

Windows has had a dedicated firmware updater for a long time, but C2 never provided one for Mac users. They've had to use a Windows PC to upgrade their monitors until now. The firmware upgrade functionality was recently added to the LogCard Utility 4.x, but LCU 4.x is only compatible with PM firmware 97 and later. So now Mac users can update their firmware on their Macs, as long as they have FW97.

ATTENTION all Mac Users with problems with the LCU:

There is a new version (4.05) available for the Mac only. Please download this version if you are having trouble with getting your mac to talk to your PM3 or PM4.

There are release notes on the web site.

Please let someone at Concept2 know if this does not solve your problems.
