Right now I only have one song to contribute. "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns 'n Roses. I'm not even a GNR fan, however, once for a 2k test, this girl asked our coach if she could play a mix tape she had and that was the first song. Let me tell you, that song got me SO amped for the first 1k, it was great. Especially the part where it kind of breaks down. Truely, y'all should just try it. It's like the lyrics were written for the pain of a 2k!

If I think of more, I will post.

I play 'Wish I Could Fly Like Superman' by the Kinks when I do a 2000m test. I'm into 60's-70's-80's classic rock big time. I hang out at Goodwill and pick up old albums for a $1 each, and turn them into mp3's. Then I burn custom cd's to erg by. There is a lot of good classic stuff on them that we don't hear any more.

I have several playlists for practice, depending on the speed and distance of each piece. For the more intense workouts I have a playlist consisting entirely of Nightwish. Also, just yesterday afternoon we did a "lazy" 5k and I had the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack playing - it was actually quite amazing how energized I got.

Other stuff I listen to while erging are Guns N' Roses (I have their entire discography on my iPod, so they just have their own playlist), Motley Crue, AFI, Fleetwood Mac and AC/DC. AC/DC is particularly awesome for long, hard workouts.

late to the game, but...

I recently rented the movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch and had to get the soundtrack right away! I have no idea what the songs' BPMs are, or any of the technical/training issues, but it's quite good music (in my opinion). I thoroughly enjoy rowing to it, and the whole soundtrack is about 45" long, so it's a nice length for rowing. The songs range from ballads to pop-ish to punk-ish.

BTW, I enthusiastically recommend the movie, too. If you watch the DVD, be sure to look at the "making of" special feature. I usually hate those things, but found this one to be almost as entertaining and elucidating as the film.

Happy rowing!

Anything by Flogging Molly!

I've got a selection of amped up songs by some of my other favorite Irish bands such as Young Dubliners, Enter The Haggis, The Tossers, The Elders, Pogues, Jiggernaut, and probably some others that I am forgetting right now. They always work for me when I get a little bored during a workout.

almost all the songs by BOND (a group of 3 women, or was it 5? sorry cant remember now)
are in my mp3 player and I'm plugged into it 6 days a week on the erg. at the YMCA,

but Feb. 4th I will have my own Concept2 model D at home and then I can crank up the tunes throughout the house!!!! NO more headphones, wires and the tangled mess I get myself into sometimes....

I will erg freely !

Not to mention that I do not have to make a 2 hr return trip 6x/wk to row....
YAH!

Bond is worth checking out....

For those of you who like electronic/dance music (think trance, house) my boyfriend is a "recreational" DJ who posts full length mixes for free on his website - it's (double-u, double-u, double-u) djjoncaserta (dot) com. (Sorry for the broken stuff, but this darn forum says since I'm a new user I can't post URL's!)

Only one catch - you have to PM me and tell me what you like and what you don't - he loves feedback!

Happy rowing!

Thanks for the thanks! *laugh*

I will definitely check out the Nick Nice site - I'm always down for finding new talent ... wherever it is.

Also - nice bike - is that yours? ... I think my boyfriend and I will start saving up for a pair - we both want to learn how to ride, and our next-door-neighbor races them ... we race cars now but motorcycles seem like so much fun ... the fast ones that is!
