Good picture there Francois (and congrats on being the weekly winner.) With those monster biceps and quads it's no wonder you're such a speed machine . I've put in my first good week on the erg in quite some time. I'm more than a bit rusty. I'm hoping to do the CTC sometime next week. This weekend is for splitting about 5 cord of wood . Although I took a lot of time off for cycling this summer, I feel really fresh on the erg and am looking forward to lots of winter meters!ulu wrote:Here is the link to Francois comments There is a great picture of him on the bike.Tinpusher wrote:Congratulations Francois on being a "Weekly Winner"!
Welcome back to those who've not been erging recently. Hopefully your efforts will help speed us through the cold bits!

We are now on the longest leg of our journey. Hopefully many of you are ready to put in some meters on the erg so we can cut across Antartica and into South America. This will be long and arduous, but the eh!team can do it..... one meter at at a time.
Keep on rowin', eh.

The picture was taken during an Aquabike (1500m swim + 40K bike) I did last August. I had just completed the swim when the picture was taken so my arms were still congested with blood, that is why they look more impressive than they normally are!
I am erging almost every day now, following the Wolverine Plan, which I highly recommend. I will do the 4k CTC next week as part of a 5k time trial.
John, I hope you have some help for the wood, spiltting 5 cords is quite a workout!
Cheers!

Hmmm, You guys have me thinking that a rented log splitter would allow me more energy for rowing . I might as well focus on keeping sport specific, eh?Tinpusher wrote:I don't envy you splitting and stacking 5 cords either. We just stacked 4 and that was a workout! I sensibly (I thought anyway) rowed beforehand.

You weren't going to split them by hand were you? There's an old couple (late 60's) that I pass on my way to work and over the last two summers they've split and stacked probably 50 cords of wood in their driveway. I guess they're stockpiling for when they get too old!

I've considered splitting it by hand, but to be honest the idea of the gas powered log splitter has been sounding better and better ! I think you are right Dave, just using the machine and stacking the wood will be a lot of work. Having decided to rent one (and having one reserved for tomorrow) gave me the incentive to try the CTC a little earlier then I had planned. I noticed that Mark and Jim are pretty much in a dead heat. Well done to both of you and everyone else who've done it so far this month.Tinpusher wrote:You weren't going to split them by hand were you? So I did my bit for the team, at least we have one more boat on the "water".
Hopefully as my time on the rower becomes less erratic with the onset of the cold season my times wiil improve (although I seem to be regularly at around 150 to 160 on the overall list so maybe I will stay at this level).
By the way. the video of the killer whale jumping on the kayaker is a fake (sorry) I just got back from kayaking at the northern end of Vancouver Island (I heartily recommend it)and around the campfire we were discussing it. The fellow who was leading the trip is a kayak guide of 20 years experience and I gather the kayak guides on the coast have been talking about it and it is definitely fake.

We went rowin' past Campbell Island today. Take care not to disturb the albatrosses!
It looks like it is a rather desolate place, eh.
Keep on rowin', hosers.

What! A FAKE! Was it the giant can of Bumblebee Tuna jumping just in front of the whale that gave it away? I thought it did seem a bit too much of a Seaworld jump at first, but then all the background 'Oh my God' chatter made me think it was real. Oh well, I bit, hook, line, and sinker. I guess I'll just have to strap that old wooden leg back on and keeping looking - and maybe find a great white whale this time.Trevor wrote:By the way. the video of the killer whale jumping on the kayaker is a fake (sorry)
Or else you have to row with an albatross around your neck?ulu wrote:Take care not to disturb the albatrosses!
But I think that punishment is reserved exclusively for the Ancient Mariner's team.
Well, that makes two literary allusions. I can't wait to work in Dante's Inferno, but I think that will have to wait until sometime after Antarctica.

Great job on the 4Ks Trevor and Francois!!! Francois, you are really flying these days . Are you looking at doing a 2K anytime in the near future? With the speed you had for the 4K, I bet you could really put on the after burners at 1/2 that distance! How were your splits for the 4k, let us know if you get a chance. John.

Thanks John!
I did a 5K time trial; the 14:09 was the time for the first 4K. My splits for the 5K were:
1000m 1:47.7 @ 29 spm
2000m 1:46.5 @ 28
3000m 1:45.5 @ 28
4000m 1:44.7 @ 29
5000m 1:42.4 @ 30
Total time: 17:33.8 (1:45.3) @ 28spm, a PB by 14 seconds!
Note that the last 4K was done in 13:58.4, and the last 2K in 6:54.3
I will do a 2K this Fall, but I need to do more L1 sessions (8x500m and 4x1000m) first.
Cheers!

Much respect for all Eh! Team CTC participants.
Francois- may I borrow your 5k splits for my next 2k?
Hope to join in the fun for the next challenge. Seems my erg has only just awakened from having the Summer off. Perhaps the trip through Antarctica will help get me back to form but I find it slow going so far.
