Bumpy Slides

My slides have developed a crack in the plastic rail which goes under the rollers. This makes a very annoying bump at the end of every stroke. It feels like a lot of "black spots" on the seat rail. Has anyone else had this problem? It has gotten so bad that I need to replace the plastic rail. I don't remember seeing it under "spare parts", so I will try to call Concept on Monday.

Xeno, you use slides a lot. Have you seen this problem on any of your machines?

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Where is this "end of the stroke"?

The part is easily replaced, but if it is near one end of the track, you can cut it off there and move the piece so that you are on the continuous section for a temporary fix, generally the full length of the slide is not used. C2 will get you fixed up with a new piece though.

The bump, or actually the divot, is when the seat is at the end of the stroke. I switched the front and back slides so that the bump wasn't quite as noticeable. (Because my weight wasn't pushing the roller down into the hole.) But, it still doesn't feel right.

The plastic railing part is very easy to remove if I can just find the proper replacement part. I was thinking about looking at weatherstripping at home depot and plastic edging for woodworking. But first, I will call Concept and see what they say.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

I believe Concept2 sends it out for free if it still is under the warranty time. On the rail if there is black residue it is a cumulation of sweat and dirt. You might want to replace the rollers of your seat.
I have been out of town for two weeks.
I hope you this helps.
XENO

I called Concept on Monday afternoon about sending replacement parts for my slides. They sent me two rails without charge and they arrived today, Wednesday a little before noon. Concept didn't have to send these items free of charge because I bought my slides a little over three years ago. But they did anyway. All I can say is:

THANK YOU for the slide rails and the prompt service!

Paul Flack

This has nothing to do with the black gunk on the seat rail. That is a totally different problem. I put the replacement plastic strip on, and the slides roll smooth again.

I have been rowing in real boats for the last few weeks. I don't see how anyone that rows on the water can stand to row on an erg without slides. The boathouse where I row, Community Rowing Inc, has several slides and many ergs. But, the slides are in a pile and in several stages of disrepair. There is not one erg that is on slides! I was told that the slides are only for team rows where several ergs are connected together. I think these rowers need to learn a little about the secrets of the erg. There is no wonder that oarsmen don't like ergs!

Cheers,

Paul Flack
