Rick,

I am also 81. If your friend rowed in the Cornell varsity at Poughkeepsie in 1947, then I rowed against him. We (Cal) were fourth (out of 11?) and Cornell was second behind Navy. Washington took the third place honors.

Bob:

I'll ask on Tuesday to see about his Cornell days. I think he was in the College of Agriculture and may have played football instead of rowing. I think rowing came later in his adult life (after serving as a navigator on B29's in the Panama Canal Zone). I drop a note when I know more.

re: the 30 minute challenge

Thank you Bonnie, Dave, Mark, Henrik, Jennifer, John, Bob, and Gene for throwing your meters in for this event! We'll get some more shortly from Dr. Kev, King Turtle, myself, Jim K, Rick F, maybe Gustaaf if he ever returns from the Great Northwest, and a few others. If we can coax just one more female for this event, we'll likely have 3 boats.

Great job, UNM!

Gustaaf 1, Grizzlies 0

Post by rfahle » July 16th, 2006, 3:52 pm

Gustaaf has returned from the wilderness after safely escaping the grizzly bears... I am pleased that Gustaaf could only bump me one seat (TR-II, seat 1 to seat 2) and I am pleased that Gustaaf was able to convince Pat to join in TR-III. It is clear that Pat's leg is healing and she is on the mend, Pat---- GREAT JOB and THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU FOR JOINING!

Now we need one additional rower (male/female, heavyweight/lightweight) to complete TR-III. SUPER SUPPORT FROM UNM.

Agreed to the sentiments on Pat's and Gustaaf's participation, and Pat's ability to bounce back from a serious leg injury. Good stuff!

And we finally have Jim Kathios rowing to complete the 3-boat cycle. I knew he'd come through, as he always does. Good man.

I believe next month's challenge will be more of a sprint and we may easily get 4 boats in the water assuming we can get one more of our lights to row!
