How's every getting on with their training considering the high temps?

Increasing the volume daily but in the form of intervals. Lengthening out the workouts to include more rest while also increasing the time working.

As usual, I take weekends off and cross train on weekends - like play with the kids and mow the lawn.

High temeprature is nothing new here in Sacramento where it is fequently above 100 deg in summer (e.g. tuesday was 107). I try to get my workout in before it gets too hot (it is now only 77 at 7:20 AM).

This is the reverse of the challenge I faced before I moved here from the Northeast 4 years ago. There I rowed in a family room in an unheated wing of the house and winter temperatures (indoor) were frequently well below zero. This required heavy sweats and a long warmup but, given a choice between that and 100+ temperatures I would prefer the cold.

I've done the last couple of sessions as 5' intervals, 2:00r to avoid the problem of melting into a sticky pool of goo on the gym floor.

Erging in the heat

Post by Rockin Roland » July 22nd, 2006, 1:42 am

High temperatures and erging just don't mix. If your erging in the heat then your an idiot. You must remember what the thing was originally designed for in the first place. It was designed for on water rowers to use during the winter months when all the rivers and lakes are frozen.

Erging during high temperatures can do your body more harm than good so your better off doing something else until the weather cools. Surely there must be other forms of exercise available to you. Most sensible people take a break from erging during the hotter months and find no problem getting back into it once it cools.
PBs: 2K 6:13.4, 5K 16:32, 6K 19:55, 10K 33:49, 30min 8849m, 60min 17,309m
Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.

Reducing the distance and reducing the pace. B)

Not working out at all, when it's hot makes me feel worse.
Since it will be hot for the rest of the month... not working out is not an option.

When is erging dangerous ?

· By temp. up to 24° Celcius: no problem.
· By temp. from 25 to 26° Celcius: there can be a problem for ethletes who are not well trained
. By temp. from 27 to 28° Celsius: there can be a problem for everyone.

Advice: reduce the distance and the pace and drink a lot.

· By temp. above 28° Celcius: erging is dangerous. Do not do it.

When humidity is high, extra caution !
