Small noise coming from the fan when it decelerate

Post by SplituL » March 24th, 2006, 7:00 pm

Hi, I've just got my first erg earlier today. Can't believe I've waited this long :D However, I've notice that when the fan decelerate, there's a small noise coming from it like it's rubbing against something. When I looked at it through the metal mesh, it looks as if it wouldn't be perfectly aligned in it's axis, just like a bicycle wheel that needs some work done. :-) Is it normal? If not, how can I fix it? I know the shipping can sometimes be hard on the packages so I just want to make sure it's normal. Thanks for your help!!! :P

Contact Concept2 - I don't know if this is an actual problem or just your lack of familiarity with the erg, but they are always extremely eager to make sure that your new erg is working as it should.

Cheers, Paul

Yeah, that's exactly what I did... after reading the faqs, the forums and downloading the information about the flywheel design. Anyway, I'll wait for and answer from them. I can hardly wait to play fish though...

I've had my Model C for many years, and it's always given out a few little squeaks not long before the flywheel stops. I find it useful, as it's an audible reminder to note my time & meters before the display shuts off.

I just got a new Concept2 today and it too made a sound like something was scraping against something. I saw that the instructions showed how to clean the flywheel of dust, so I did that. After that the noise stop, but overall the machine still doesn't sound quite like the other Model D's I've used at school or various gyms (including gyms with brand new model D's). I'm comparing using the same drag factor, spm, etc. Is this normal? Although the original noise is gone, I'm afraid it's still not "right".

Did your noise just go away? What did concept2 say? Anyone else have this issue?

They left a piece of stryrofoam in the flywheel housing of mine. No noise once that was removed.
