Congrats on those PB's, ladies!
And nice job getting the Eh!Team boat started. I will join you soon, I mean who can resist a boat like that B)

Our around the world boat is now in the Southern hemisphere, so remember to row backwards for the next few months.

Keep on rowin', eh.

Francois wrote:Congratulations Michelle, Shannon and Brigitte for your PBs and for being the first in boat #1! I am sure many (all?) men are eager to join you!

I am not sure when I will do it, since I am still recovering from a long swim meet we had Saturday in Montreal (just one PB this time). Maybe I should just wait for John to see what is the distance to beat! :D

I have received the slides I had ordered and was hoping they would make me faster, but unfortunately that is not the case! :(
Congrats from me to Michelle, Brigitte and Shannon and for you on your swimming pb Francois! I tried giving it a go on Saturday, but I went out thinking I was in better shape than I am :( . After about 12 minutes I knew it wasn't going to happen the way that I wanted it to so I bagged the attempt. I realize now that I need to get on the erg more. I just started doing the 2k interactive training program from the UK site. I still want to get in some cycling so I'm going to do the level 4 program four days / week. The program is nice because you can set it up for 4-6 days / week at what ever level suits your ability. The workouts are based on your 2k time. I'll probably try the 30 minute row late in the week.

Francois, now do you like the slides? We're thinking that we might like to get a set at some point.

I like the slides. They are sturdy and rowing on them is very smooth. I have to really concentrate on pushing hard with the legs to get decent splits though. They are also a little more gentle on my shoulders and force me to pivot at the hips and have a straight back on the recovery (otherwise I hit the end of the slides). However, I don't plan on doing all my training on them but probably alternate on and off them on a weekly basis.

BTW it took 4 days to get them by FedEx and they forgot to collect GST and PST, so with our strong dollar they ended up being relatively inexpensive! :D

About your 30 min attempt John, how fast did you start ?

About your 30 min attempt John, how fast did you start ?
I started out at what I thought was 1:53. I planned on doing that for 6 minutes, then 1:52.5 for 6 minutes, etc. like you recommended Francois (but 1:53 instead of 1:53.5.) Looking back at the splits I was actually going faster than this. I was trying to keep it at 1:53 but the splits said I was doing 1:52.6 through the first 6 minutes. I then was going 1:52 for the next 6 minutes. It's pretty hard to try to go by the half second (ie. 1:52.5) I think next time I try I'll look at going 1:53 for the first 10-15 minutes, then start to drop the pace. As I mentioned before, I haven't been doing long rows or long intervals on the erg and this was noticeable. I'm OK for sprints, but need to put in the work for longer distances. Today I started working on that. Any advice is appreciated, although my own advice to myself is work harder and start slowly :) .

It is quite unfortunate that the PM3 does not display the pace with one decimal, that should be an option IMO and shouldn't be too hard to implement. Is it available in RowPro?
To circumvent that problem, one has to compute the corresponding projected time or distances, as I did in a previous post.
Considering that you haven't done much long distance training on the erg, I think that breaking 8000m would be a nice achievement. Personally, I wouldn't start faster than 1:53.5. When I did my 60 min PB (16031m) I averaged 1:55.2 for the first 12 minutes.

The best advice I could give is to follow the Wolverine Plan! If you don't have the energy for the level 1 and 2 (because of your cycling) you should at least focus on the Level 3 and 4 of the plan. Now that I am swimming twice a day (mornings and evenings), that is all I can do with the little energy left! Trust me, those workouts will do wonder to your endurance on the erg.

Great rowin', hosers.

We have made it to the Indonesian island of Java. This is volcano country, so be careful.

Well after nearly a week off the machine, I finally managed to get some time to put in a 30 minute piece before work. All those ladies in the boat were just too much to resist  Sorry to have displaced you Michelle. Come on guys, since this is our challenge we should at least get more boats in the water.
Cheers

Congratulations to everyone who has done the CTC. There are some great times and two boats filled so far! I did it yesterday and it went OK. I was hoping to go a bit further, but for the rowing I've been doing, the distance was about right. Mark, so close to 8000!! Are you going to try for that extra metre sometime? Francois, I was sure that you'd get over 8100, you did it and then some! Well done!
My family and I hiked up a mountain soon after doing the 30 minute row. It was pretty hard to keep up! :) great views though. With the combination of the two activities and rain outside today, it might be a good day to grab a book and kick back :) . Great rowing everyone! John.

Great rowin' everyone. I am on the road again, so I have not had a chance to put in the 30 minutes yet. I found an old machine at the hotel I was in the last 2 nights, none tonight and I think the one tomorrow night has one.

So hopefully I will get a chance over the next few days.

Nice to see the 2 boats on the C2C challenge.

Keep on rowin', eh.

Impressive job Mark and David on your CTC. Both of you really improved. What did you do differently to increase your distance?

Good Job Mark and David!
Mark, you leapfrogged me, going from 7999m to 8205m!

Well, I guess I'll have to give the 30 min another go and surpass myself!

Thanks guys.

Great row Mark! That's a huge improvement.

To answer your question John. For me it was just pacing. I'd gone out way to fast resuting in aborted attempts recently. This last 2 days I'd tried the negative pacing people were talking about, starting slower and building up gradually. It worked with PBs in both the 30 and the 60 minutes in the last 2 days.

I'm aiming for 8000 in the 30, whether it happens this month, we'll need to wait and see!

Cheers

Well I thought I'd go for the hat-trick, 3 PBs in 3 days. I did the negative pacing again on a re-row of my 60 minute piece the other day and managed to beat it by 17 metres. An hour's work for a measly one point gain on the Nonathlon! A day off tomorrow I think.
Nice job in the CTC Rob.
I guess Brigitte has "broken" the round the world website again?

You're an animal Dave  Three pb's in three days. I'd say a rest day or TWO! Good work! John.
