Wow, this is a great time, Shannon! Seems like the longer the distance, the more easily you beat me. Right now I doubt that I could get below 1:40. I'm glad though that my row file helped you! I confess I have been using your row files quite often too. :D They helped a lot to improve my times when I would otherwise have slacked ... Maybe we can set up an online race again some time?

Thanks Brigitte, I figured that I had to see if I could get ahead of you in some sort of distance (besides marathon)!!

Maybe we should set up an online 5K. Surely we could kill each other on that one, since our PB's are less than one second apart!! :?

As far as the CTC goes, I like to do distances that can be ranked, so 500, 2K or 30:00 unrestricted are all fine by me. It also seems to me that they argue forever over every detail of intervals when they are chosen for the CTC! I think something straightforward is good.

Hi, Eh! Team:
Matt Newman, Team Oarsome member & co-founder of CTC here :D

Standard Intervals are fine I think (eg 4 x 500m, 2 min rest) but variable distance and / or variable rest period ...
...(like the Ruby Challenge) are probably best avoided as the potential confusion will undoubtedly put people off again ...
...and cause others to get confused and end up doing the wrong challenge!

Also worth avoiding anything that will take too long as many CTC folk have limited training session lengths. 45 mins tops I think.

Personally I'm in the 1609m camp (ties in nicely with Evesham, UK 1609m event 8th July)...
... and encourages folk to continue with CTC participation in the hotter weather when long erg sessions seem to be less popular.

Participation numbers and record of challenges picked so far to date in chart below.
Would be great to see The July chalenge get over 350 members....

Bye for now B)

Great row in the 2K Dave!
You're getting very close to the 7 minute barrier.

I think it's good to have these little intra team challenges. It seems easier to chase someone you sort of know who is just ahead of you than just a name from a board.

Whatever it takes to keep you motivated.
I'll try to keep ahead of you if it helps.

Cheers eh,

Geez, super rowin' everyone. Too many new PB's to give all of the credit where it is due, but well done.
I have been working too hard and relaxing down on the lake when I am not working. The fishing is great.

I am OK with any distance for the July challenge.

In the meantime the Eh!Team has made it over 20,000,000 meters! and we are through Thailand http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/fac ... os/th.html and into Malaysia. http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/fac ... os/my.html

My most vivid memories of Malaysia are the Thaipusam. A hindu festival that is banned in India.

Vows are taken and people submit themselves to various forms of bodily pain to walk the distance up to the temple. The smell of the incensce and the push of the crowds and the chanting of the priests and the fortitude of the participants is one of those memories that is forever etched in my brain.

Keep on rowin', eh.

Thanks Matt for the clarification on the CTC. I like your picture Jim, looks like fun :P , I wonder if they ever tried a 1k to up their pain :) . Are people OK with voting on or by Monday? To date, the only Eh Team recommended distances have been the 30 minute and 500 metre. If anyone would like to include the mile, 2k or other distance please let us know.

I'll go ahead and take over the voting process, unless someone else wants to? If you want to send me your vote my e-mail is:

It seems to me that whatever distance we choose, the usual suspects are always going to be at the top of the list. Graham Benton, Tony Larkman, and from my age group Andreas van Tonder (which I have no hope in hell of beating at any of the race categories) are all going to be bringing in their teams at #1 or #2 so we need to spice it up a bit. How about doing a 2K race, but in the process you need to quaff 2 pints of beer (for each 1K). I figure that should bring the margin these fine tuned athletes have over us hackers a bit closer.

The Canadian Advantage  This idea has come up a few times, but I don't think the people across the ocean would be able to keep up and would cry foul :D. Plus, drinking while boating is illegal in some areas.

19:12 pacific time Friday
The votes for the CTC are in for day one.

500 metre 4 votes
30 minute 4 votes
So far, no votes for 2k, mile, or intervals.

People who have voted include: Francois, Ellen, Trevor, Brigitte, John, Shannon, Dave and Kirk. I went back and looked at what people said that they wanted on the Round the World site and included the ones e-mailed. Close race eh? It looks like we've got the short and sweet crowd and the cruising crowd. Keep the votes coming! John.

Voting results for Saturday 6/24 (Including yesterday.)

500 metre: 4 votes
30 minute 7 votes

Shannon and I did the 1k again. She got a pb by 6/10s and I got one by half that, 3/10s. It's hard to make gains on this one!

Congratulations Shannon and John for your PBs!
It must be a special feeling when when both husband and wife get a PB!
Talk about team work!

John, I am glad that next month challenge is likely going to be the 30 min! It will give me an opportunity to get my revenge for not making boat #1 on the 1K! :D

Cheers!

Well done Shannon and John!
I can't bring myself to do another 1K. Maybe, just maybe, before the end of the month I'll do another  Isn't it July yet?!
I managed to do a good 6K today. Every other time I've done it, its been an aborted 10K or 30minutes, so my times have never been that good. The Nonathlon shows me exactly where I should be making improvements and I was thrilled to get below 23.00.
Cheers all

You not only got below it Dave, you smashed it! Well done! :D
Francois, I must admit that I was one of the ones that voted for the 500 metre . It was a bit sneaky, but I thought that I'd have a chance at the first boat with that distance. If it does go 30 minute unrestricted (likely, but not for sure until tomorrow) I'll see if I might be able to push you a bit, although I know that if it's not a sprint, I'll likely be helping out boat #2. But then again, there are some other light weights on the team that are picking up speed fast, so we'd both better keep our eyes in the rear view mirror.

Thanks John.
We have visitors with us just now but my wife has got them away for a couple of hours so I thought I'd make the most of it and after about 30 minutes rest got back on and did a 30 minute piece. Increased my PB there by 113m. :o
I think I'm still new enough to this that PBs are easier to come by just by improvements in my fitness. That's 2 of the goals I set myself passed, I guess I'll need to move them again! :D
Cheers

Dave, impressive work there!! Two PB's in one day!!

That 1K I did yesterday was my last attempt of the month, so Brigitte is safe in boat #1 this month! I knew that I would have no chance against her, she is a better sprinter than I am for sure! Still I took 9.8 seconds off my 1K time this month, so who is complaining? B)

Looking forward to testing myself against a new distance next month!
