Hmmm, I'm afraid your options are very limited, Trevor:
Option one: you might get lightweight until month's end, but you would still have to row really really hard in order to kick out John.
Option two: you can have my seat, but in order to get there, some surgical refinements might be neccessary, which might be a little unpleasant ... B)
Well, maybe stick with just "rowing really really hard"?
Sorry, Trevor, I just couldn't resist ...
I will be watching the race between you and Kirk!!! :D

I suppose I will have to attempt the half marathon on Wednesday. So far my greatest distance is 16K . Any tips on pacing?

Trevor
Not sure if this helps or not with respect to pacing ... prior to this year I had never been on the erg for more than 45 minutes. Having worked my way up to 1 hour earlier in the year, I did the Half Marathon piece at about 2 - 4 seconds slower (per 500 meter split) than my piece I did at 1 hr.

It kinda works when you look at the ranking boards. People who put in a score for 60 min, will have splits about 2-4 seconds slower / 500 meters than their half marathon piece.

Cheers,
Troy

Great row in the CTC Troy! I guess I'll need to have another go at getting back into the first boat. B)

Well done Troy. The bar has been raised again for those of us in the chase boats!

Trevor, I didn't mean it as a challenge, more as a motivational target for me. :) But hey, I'm in!
By the way, the added effort you're going to have to put out is to get back into boat 2 before the end of the month, not boat 1.  Happy rowing.

Cheers eh,

Troy, Excellent CTC effort.
Anyone in Boat III making another attempt this month? I would like to go under 1:50/500 but need Eh! Team peer pressure to do so :)

Thanks for the encouragement! Hopefully I'll have recovered in time for next months challenge :?

By the way - for those of you interested there is another challenge out there that is interesting as well: http://www.nonathlon.com/. It puts everyone, regardless of age, weight and sex, on equal ground. In fact if you look at the rankings from last year, a 44 yo Lightweight Woman won it last year

Troy
Thanks for the link to the Nonathlon. Very interesting being compared so precisely which makes it easy to see which events need more work, like my 2K

Looks like my best option is to row harder, don't think I could lose 30 pounds in 12 days and exceed John's time. The surgery would probably take too long to book and somehow I think no one , even the East Germans at their most notorious, would accept a bald women with a beard.

I suspect Kirk may be right and my true struggle will be to retain my seat in boat two.

Hi Chris, I'll be giving it another go before month's end, and as the team's 4th quickest lightweight (of 4  ), I may take my usual spot in Boat III. :)

Cheers eh,

Kirk, As the slowest heavyweight my time in Boat III is very much in question. :x Even if I'm bumped out of the boat, if I can pb it will have been worth while. B) Good luck with your next 1k.

Maybe just a tiny little bit of make-up would help? No? So you mean I'll have to do another attempt on that 1K on my own? *Sigh* ... and I thought I had found a way around it :? . Those short distances are EVIL!!!

Great job Francois on the 1k and everyone else who has done it. We've been gone since last Friday and have missed a lot of the fun!!! I thought that I'd be waving to you as you past by me Francois :) . I think that height makes all the difference in this one, because I know that you have much better conditioning then me.

I don't know what others are thinking for July (thanks for finding that Chris!), but I'd put my vote in for a 30 minute unrestricted. I remember when we first considered what we would choose many months ago. My idea then was to do two 1k races on the same day but at least an hour apart. I take it from your comment above Francois that you wouldn't be in favor of that one :P (actually, neither would I!) What does everyone else have in mind? I think our team does do well with distance, I'm not sure how long we are allowed to make it? Does anyone know if an hour row would be tolerated? John.

If our team does well with distance, are we ruling out Around The World? :) We get to keep our head start of course.:D
