Right. Got it. Slackers like me.

Cool. I sent it in response to yours from months ago ... I literally turned things off for two months and just ran ... and ran ... and ran ... combined with OTW classes (man, do I suck at that ... I square after the feather just a bit too late and bury the blade ... gotta stop that ... gotta learn the early roll-up which seems to still elude me).

Wow, did some fireworks go on here or what? I didn't go back through history, just posted on what I thought was the 2007 season Taff site, and got BLASTED. So much for sportsmanship, camaraderie, loyalty, etc.

So, now I just follow my watch (inside joke ... I got a new Suunto t6) and press on for sub-7 and beyond at the ripe old age of 47.7.

Respond when you can.

Cheers -- Mark

Eric,
It's the same thing every year, from kids (adults) manually playing the system to the endless debate on just erg meters logged, or to include water meters.
I used to watch the +10k/day Annual meter board everyday (back when I was listed), now I avoid looking at it. I just let RowPro keep track and upload to C2.
The important thing for me these days is just to keep rowing. My goal this week (and the rest of the month) is to do a HM every night.

No, you're not. While it may be a legitimate total, it is hard to believe anybody can average 70k a day. Even if they have the time, to be able to erg/row for 5-6+ hours a day is amazing.

Others may disagree, but I think discussion about the times and distances of the top performing individuals is part of the enjoyment of the sport.

Yes Gus, but obsession with, "Are they cheating or are they not?" is, in my OPINION (operative word here ... OPINION), unhealthy.

For what it's worth, I don't believe he's falsely adding meters to the till. He's retired, has all the time in the world, and like he once said in his profile "I enjoy beating all the younger guys," or something to that effect. Also, I think he's attempting to get his 20MM tote on the same day as his 1MM pin. :)

What’s all the fuss about? So what if he claims all this weekly mileage, it does not bother me one bit.

I will wait till he starts claiming WR times for all distances in his age group, then we can start asking questions about this mans abilities, unless he shows up at a race of course.

Mark, why are you so defensive all the time? Do you see yourself as a slacker then?

Your defence of any controversial rankings related subject is to state “who cares” some people do care as much as you don’t care.

Ehagberg has the right to ask the question, it is a valid one too. It is obvious that he cares.

Chad: think that maybe some people do care about mileage as much as you do about WRs. Not anybody has to be at your level.

That's fine as long as he's actually doing the meters.

I just don't believe that regardless of having all the time in the world that anyone would be able to spend it doing that level of meterage every single day, not having built up to it over a period of years.

I never said he didn't have the right to feel or believe anything he wanted, nor did I say it was "invalid", did I? I just asked a few questions, yes?

Since when did a discussion board become a place where one posts an opinion, supposed fact, or insinuation, and expects no DISCUSSION?

Mark, you imply that because the said topic does not interest you then it is not worthy of any discussion.

Eric, do we know when he started? Perhaps he had built up over a period of years, but just discovered the on-line log, etc... (I took a quick look at the 2006 boards & didn't see him, but I could have just missed it.)

I have no way of knowing, but I guess that's why I'm asking.

No, actually that's not what I asked or implied. I was looking for motivation for asking such a question. What motivates someone to be concerned to the point where they post about it? Where they question another's veracity of the meters another posts. Eric answered my question.

Eric's high on the list. 15th as of right now. He sees a guy who claims many, many more meters than he (Eric) has done. He questions this guy's meters. Now, why might this be of interest to someone like him? Perhaps:

1) He's all about right and wrong. He feels the guy is a liar, and that's bad (in his mind), so he wants to point this out.

2) He's all about being at the top of the list, and sees absolutely no way to do this since he's rowing his tail off right now, and "only" doing 20,998 meters each day! If this guy is really rowing these meters, his goal is fruitless, because he can't possibly find the time to row 3 times+ what he rows now.

Just a philosophical discussion on motivations, goals and interests, that's all.

Now, why might a guy post this many meters?

1) They're real, and he's determined to be and stay at the top of the list. He's got time on his hands, and nothing to do. Rather then rob the corner milk store for grins, he rows. Plus, it makes him feel good. Maybe he just lost a long-time, loving, cherished wife or close friend, and the rowing helps him not be so sad all the time.

2) He's a fake, and he does this because he knows it will spark controversy and get those that want to be at the top of the list, but can't be, all knotted up.

Just a few random thoughts on the matter ...
