Hey, we have more hosers!

Welcome Michelle Alkerton from Welland, Ontario and Troy Tinnes from Delta, BC to the Eh!Team.

We should be able to make a dent in the C2C challenge and in the around the world row.

Keep on rowin', eh.

Virtual beers? Does this involve sitting at the computer thinking of all the good times you had when you where younger and drank more? Way way more. More than was good for you. Or any living organism.

Is there a danger of virtually getting a virtual STD from virtually anyone on any virtual ocassion or virtually destroying your marriage with virtual strangers for no virtual reason (except for virtually the best sex you have ever had)?

A big congratulations to Michelle for doing her first 5k and in joining us in the CTC! It looks like we need to find 4 more rowers so we can fill another boat in June :) !

Trevor, I think we're pretty safe :D . We'll be too busy rowing around the world to get ourselves into any of that bad stuff (virtual or real!)

Great rowin', hosers.

We have made it through India and we are now in Bangladesh. http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/fac ... os/bg.html

We are almost at 90 degrees east longitude, so over one quarter away around the world in our around the world row. As soon as we hit Dhaka we are going to start heading in a more southerly direction.

Keep those beers comin', I prefer the real ones, eh. (As long as they don't have a mouse in it).

Keep on rowin', eh.

Jim-
My garage was as warm as Bangladesh this a.m. 99% humidity and 68 degrees made for a challenging session after 6 days off from training.

Any tips for this months CTC 1k?

There are a lot of members with more rowing experience and knowledge than me, but I'll take a shot. I plan to follow up on some advice that Francois posted and try for about 32 spm (normally 24-25). And I plan move the damper setting from its normal 3 position to something a little higher for this 1K. I'll probably try both 4 and 5 - not more than 5. And I will shoot for an average pace of my 5K pace - 10sec, though I'm not sure I can achieve that. Francois mentioned Paul's Law which would indicate more than 10sec faster than 5K pace - seems a bit too agressive to me.
And PaulS' hubris notwithstanding, I think I have to really call this Paul's Hypothesis, unless maybe Moses had a third tablet.

At least you're cheering for the right sport Dan :D . If you had said, go Yankees :o

Actually, I would have preferred the Canucks, but they imploded near the end of the season and let Edmonton in :( .

It's all good though. I imagine that Bridgette might be into the World Cup since it is hosted by Germany this year? I'd further imagine that she would be cheering for the home team! Anybody have any guesses what country will win? I don't follow soccer closely, but I've heard that Brazil is very strong and that England has an outside chance (Don't let Citreon or Johnny Bike read this  .)

Michelle, congratulations on your 1000m and being the first person in the boat! :)

Chris, the weather has been the same here. Hey were only 2.5 hours apart.
Here is how I rowed today's 1000m (after the heat broke  ).

First a 4000m Wolverine Plan L1 warm-up. I planned on going longer but I had to leave for work 20 min. after the WU was done.
Planned on 1:48 for 1st 500 / 1:47 or better 2nd. I conciously tried to slow down after the first 100m but the handle felt sooo light.

Totals 3:32.8 1,000 1:46.4 35 :D

Just 1 way of rowing it.

Cheers eh,

Congratulations to Michelle and Kirk! You are brave souls to be the first to attempt that torture test!

Kirk, 3.32.8 is a new PB for you!
Base on that performance, your 2K will likely be 20 seconds faster!

I'll give the 1K a try this weekend.

Cheers!

Great rowin', hosers.

We have turned the corner at Dhaka, Bangladesh. http://www.business-english-training.com/dhaka.html

Looks like these dudes on the rickshaws were a little confused as our boat went whipping past!

Keep on rowin', eh.

Great picture Jim! I try to show a lot of the images that you get to my kids. Good geography lesson for all of us :) .

I did my first workout in a week today. It's amazing how fast you can lose your conditioning. Hopefully it will come back in the not to distant future. :? I'm not 100% yet, but it sure feels good to do something! I'll hopefully make a try at the 1k in about a week. Nice to see Michelle and Kirk in the boat already!!! John.
