I just hate the idea of being beaten by anyone, as techincally it is always in my control as i can always train better, push harder and stay one step ahead of the competition.Alissa wrote:Why not, Owen? If you're "beaten" someone else did it...and it's therefore out of your control (that's why it's no big deal--not pleasant, but no big deal). If you "lose," it's something you did...and therefore within your control. So control it. (Make sure if you don't win, it's because you were beaten--as in, did you absolute best.)mumbles wrote:Paul, i respect you very much but could never subscribe to the abovePaulS wrote:It's no big deal being beaten, just don't lose!
Win if you can, if you're beaten, ok, but don't lose.

I read a quote the other day; "Sometimes doing our best is not enough, sometimes we must do what is nessecary"
I know, much like anyone else, that sometimes "shit happens" (pardon the expression) but to me being beaten, no matter who by or no matter how good they are, will always be a big deal, this is not just in rowing but in every other aspect of my life.
