Rowpro 2.002 is out!

Post by Dokitoedele » May 25th, 2006, 2:09 pm

This version is mainly to fix two issues in 2.001:

- In 2.001 there is a bug in the network level of Internet Racing that can interfere with the sending of any packet. This bug produced a wide range of weird issues in 2.001, all of which will now be gone again in 2.002.

- Also in 2.001 we put a check in to reject occasional bad data from the PM2+ due to electrical interference. Unflrtunately this check was made too tight, so if you had a period of not rowing during a split, the average pace for the split was low enough to fail the check. This problem is now gone in 2.002.

The 2.002 download is here: http://www.digitalrowing.com/default.aspx?type=2&id=31

Just made a test 5k. Worked fine, even on dial-up.
Forgot to activate the broadcast thing.

I installed 2.002, was race master for 3 person 5k, everything worked GREAT!!!

Nice Job RP for isolating the problem and issuing a fix so quickly.

RowPro version 2.002

Post by Rockin Roland » May 28th, 2006, 1:01 am

Looks like the boys from Digital Rowing still have some work to do with version 2.002. It's still got....BUGS !!!!!

6 or 7 of us attempted to do the 4 X 2000m races scheduled for 6 GMT Saturday. Six of us managed to line up with green lights in the first SR 2K race but we couldn't get it to start. Everyone's proceed to start button was greyed out, so we didn't seem to have a race master. A QR was then set up which worked fine with 6 finishers with times ranging from 6:50 to 7:26.

The next 2K S.R. which we all started, was a bit of a disaster, Rowpro crashed for Antony, Roy and myself but Jaime, Hennie and Nacho finished OK.

Race 3 started as a SR and all but Nacho (who must of crashed) finished.

Race 4 had trouble getting started even when set up as a QR. A second QR was set up which eventually got under way but without Hennie who I think was rebooting due to a crash.

The cooldown 2K QR was ment to be at 2:15 pace. Hennie who was well rested took off at 1.38 pace while the rest us were taking it slow. It wasn't until after 700m that I decided to give chase. He was well over 50 meters in front but I managed to catch him in the last 300m and get across the line 3 seconds ahead.

So don't get too excited about version 2.002 having all bugs fixed for internet racing because we were still having problems. In chat the question was asked if we all had version 2.002. No one replied to the contrary.
PBs: 2K 6:13.4, 5K 16:32, 6K 19:55, 10K 33:49, 30min 8849m, 60min 17,309m
Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.

That was a good race!

Nice summary of the facts. Did you sent it also to Digital Rowing?

Roland,

That is a nice summary of problem with RP. How many of you guys are willing to do some testing to find the cause? In the past I've seen accounts like this but when I try to track them down I can't get the people, who are having problems, to recreate them. For the most part I run error free but not always. I usually try to recreate the problem if I can and send in the details to Digital Rowing. Pete and his team are very good at solving problems they can see but if they don't see it happening or don't get the detail they need nothing will change.

My suggestion is that the same group of rowers should try to run a similar series next week at the same time and see if you have similar problems. It has been my suspicion that there are problems with using the race server at different times of the day. Possibly you guys have hit run into an issue like. Another possibility is that all of the rowers were not using V2.002. The way the erow protocol works is that all PCs have to contact each other. One having problems can mess it up for all. The real key here though is to at least try it again under similar conditions to see if it is a reproducible problem. Let us know what happens.

Frank: could we get some details on what ports and transport protocols are used for the peer-2-peer and client to server connections?
I am RM for a 2 or 3 person 3x2K on Tuesday nights.. I will run ethereal for the duration of the session. If something goes wrong, I will collect what data I can. Any special logging files that can be created locally?

Nice summary.
I did't crash during the 3rd race, which I finished ok (for me), but aftrewords, when the chat wouldn't work anymore.

Tremendous races and catchup to Hnnie, RR!

Chad,

I don't know it to the detail level. Most of what I know was picked up from being a long time user of erow and now RP which is using the erow protocol. The long term fix is for RP to redesign the online racing protocol which they are currently doing. Some people way they didn't have these problem with erow but I use to help with erow beginner races on Saturday mornings and saw plenty of problems.

I think the best approach right now is try to keep most people going with online racing as it works currently and let the Digital Rowing team work on the new protocol. There were 4 of us in an online race again today without a problem.

Participants' bug in 2.002?

Post by HardGainer » June 9th, 2006, 11:31 pm

I've only just now tried connecting RowPro to the Internet for the first time and tried registering a session. When I go to view the participants the only name I see there is not mine! The Christian name's correct but the surname is not.

Is this a bug or ignorance on how it works on my part?

Session's called Test_Session, set for Sat Jun 10, 09:30 GMT.

John,

check your settings in the user settings in the application (Rowpro) itself, as well as your user profile that you can access on the Rowpro website (www.digitalrowing.com) under the customer menu.

otherwise email to rowpro support.

hope that helps, Holm

Mistaken identity

Post by HardGainer » June 10th, 2006, 1:24 am

Hi Holm.

Thanks. I only have one user registered to RowPro (myself) and I certainly didn't use someone else's name when I registered on the DigitalRowing site, not sure how this would cause a name completely unknown to me to appear on the Internet session. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced similar, before I went to DigitalRowing about it.
