Runners Thread
btw, a good marathon pace calculator can be found here http://www.users.on.net/~klima/rkcalc_km.htm. Good for running or erging.

SP Marathon
Well the 'thon did not go so well. But I did finish.
It was already sunny and warm at the start about 64°F (18°C).
By the finish it was 82°F (28°C).
The first 5-6km was mostly downhill and I went out too quickly.
I was 21:58 at 5km (goal 23:20).
10k was 44:50 (goal 46:40)
16k was 1:12:50 (Goal 1:14:40)
So 10 miles was about 1:13:10
Around 17km I took a short break to pee.
At 20km 1:31:55 (goal 1:33:20), I took a potty break.
the Half was 1:38:48 (goal 1:38:28).
From there things deteriorated. The early downhills caused my calves to tighten. The potty break made it worse. Between 20km to 30km, it got worse and worse. By 30km (18.7 miles) I could not maintain a stride. I started walking after 30km until 35km. At 31 km I started getting dizzy probably from the heat and sun. By 34km, I felt better and decided to start running again at 35km (21.9 miles). I ran slowly but steadily from 35 till the end at about 8:30 per mile. The finish is the reverse of the start so was mostly uphill. But I finished fairly strongly with energy to spare. 3:53:00
I still want to run and break 3:20 and qualify for Boston.
A flatter course, cooler weather and better pacing, I think I could have broken 3:20 but certainly not much faster.
Physically, I am fine. My calves are fine today. I rowed slowly for 20 minutes (4526m). My thighs are sore and hurt going down steps as has been discussed on this forum before (though a first for me). No blisters thanks to those concept2 socks.
Thanks for all the words of support.

You did finish....and against adversity. It's all you can do sometimes. I'm impressed anyway (not having run a marathon myself)
Just an update to the thread for my running which was derailed in March with ITB syndrome. I took March and April off from running and in May I ran a few miles every other day (humbling). On June 1st I ran pain free for 60 minutes (yippee!). I hope I'm healed, but I'll never take running for granted.
If and when I go for a Boston Qualifier I'm shooting for the cool Marathons we have in Maine in October (The Maine Marathon and the Mt Desert Island Marathon).

SP Marathon
Sorry, I forgot to mention my time. 3:53:00. Once I knew 3:20 was out of the question, I really did not care what time I finished.

Been a while since I have had anything to report
Took on Ingleborough fell race today Class A, length Medium, 2000' climbing and 7 miles. Excellent preparation for racing, 5 runs in 3 months total of around 27 miles.
Guesstimate was around 45-50 up and 25 down. More or less spot on, to the top in 45:30 and 25:01 down. Climbed pretty well, not all out as I was worried about blowing up a bit and my ITB injury flaring up. Over the top and passed by around 10 runners on the immediate steep descent. The only person I passed then was was a runner who had dislocated his shoulder. On the better ground I managed to catch all 10 runners. Overall pretty pleased with myself. Good fitness basis for starting to get some long runs in again.
AHR 155 MHW was 221 but that was something wrong (probably picked someone else's up) as I saw 161 climbing and a 165 on the fast descent and I picked up pace later on say maybe 167-168. Max running is 170 ish so up there.

I ran today in the muggiest buggiest muddiest conditions in the woods. I really liked the spider webs mixing in with the sweat and then exiting the woods into the the searing heat. All runs are better than this running so there is something to look forward to.
Nice effort John. Hope it does lead to the long runs again. I'm not getting that much running in here in July as hoped (50 mi probably not 70 ) but still look forward to the long runs in a few months.

Bumped the thread. Might be doing Amsterdam FM in a few weeks. Not expecting too much. Don't really know why I am even considering it.
Jim is up to HM now and his ITB is fixed, how is everyone else. Ancho, Sam, Rob, Andy etc....
