New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
First attempt at 100,000m - 6:46:26.1 (including hydration breaks)
Didn't properly plan my hydration breaks or keep enough water/juice on hand next to the erg, so a couple breaks were longer than they should've been as I had to run to the *** DELETE - SPAM *** and back.
Still, not bad for a first attempt (and a lightweight)... and I know I won't be trying again anytime soon. It hurts a lot more than double the pain of a full marathon. Lots more new blisters (and I usually do at least 25k a day) and painful chafing as well.
According to RowPro, I burned 6548 calories!

Eric, you're a nutter. The Passaic was flat and chunk-free today. Why weren't you on it????ehagberg wrote:First attempt at 100,000m - 6:46:26.1 (including hydration breaks)

I've been wanting to try the 100k distance for a while now, but usually scheduling issues - like the fact that our babies like to take a nap in the afternoon and sleep from 9pm to 8am every night - have kept me from doing it, as we live in a 1200 sq ft. apartment.NavigationHazard wrote: Eric, you're a nutter. This week the wife and babies are visiting relatives in Germany (I'm meeting them out there in a week or so) and that meant I could take advantage of the ability to do this.
I really wish the river had been terrible, but that's life. There will be plenty more great days on the water. Not nearly as many opportunities to do the 100k...
2k PB today - 7:13.5 @ 29spm, DF=139
New PB by 4.3 seconds.
Video of attempt, shows Rowpro racing software running in Broadcast mode, where the camera cuts to different angle shots during the race, following all the competitors.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chflRSfBK54
It can be slightly confusing because there are 2 of me rowing (3 if you count the real me in the foreground) . My current row is in lane 4 nearest the camera, my previous PB row was in lane 3, and there is another virtual rower in lane 2, thanks Joerg Werner from South Africa for providing some virtual competition.
I paced this one better than my last PB, not quite so manic at the start, though it hurt even more at the end from what I can remember, or make out from the video.

Eric: Tremendous performance, I still have to find the words. You know how to find interesting things to do when the family is away, eh?ehagberg wrote:First attempt at 100,000m - 6:46:26.1 (including hydration breaks)

Did you think you could do the 100k without drinking (as well?)
Well, big congrats, could you sit the day after?

I did take breaks for water during the 100k (unlike my full marathon pieces)... but I did have problems figuring out how many times I was going to need to stop. I stopped first after the 50k mark and then 5 more times after that.ancho wrote: Did you think you could do the 100k without drinking (as well?)

Sitting isn't all that bad, but I do have some sore muscles and nasty chafing burns on my upper inner thighs.
That's amazing!ehagberg wrote: ...

I listened to music (random shuffle of loads of music so I had no repeats) and had RowPro running, counting down the meters.RowtheRockies wrote:Eric:
Amazing endurance effort! Did you watch movies, listen to music. I love erging but I can't imagine spending that much time on it! Did you take in any food during the 6+ hours?

I tried to eat a Powerbar, but it didn't "hit the spot" as I'd hoped, so I just had some juice/water mixed a few times instead of plain water, to get at least a few calories into me.
I did pre-load my stomach with two stacks of 3 pancackes and a side of sausage and a big bottle of water prior to starting the piece - even with all that food and water I was easily under 165lbs... and when I finished I was down to about 156, even with lots of drinking throughout the piece.

New 1K PB
Old 3:31.6 - 08 March, 2006
New 3:29.2 - 15 May, 2006
Splits
1st 500 1:42.3
2nd 500 1:46.9
Goal was 3:29.0 but I can do better. Bad plan. Plan was to hold 1:40 as long as possible, assuming it would be at least 500m. Then hold onto 1:48 and that would actually be 3:28, leaving a little room for error. Upper outside thighs gave out after 400m, so I held onto 1:48 which was actually quite easy. (Should have held 1:46 probably) Then with 150 to go, pulled back down to 1:44 and the occasional 1:43. Not displeased, but I can do better.
