First Million!!

Post by Hapa » May 1st, 2006, 12:47 am

Yeah! I met my goal of completing my first million by the time the new season started. It was pretty tough since I slacked last weekend so I had to fit in about 100,000 meters this last week. My attempt at completing a marathon unfortunately wasn't a success, but I did complete a half marathon at least. It only took me about five years, but I finally did it so I'm happy with that!

Now that I'm erging regularly, I think I might see if I can complete two million this next season? That'll help me get these final 5 - 10 lbs off hopefully.

Thanks to all the ducks, reading everyone's postings helped me stick with it, especially today when I still had over 27,000 left to go and I had to do it a few thousand meters at a time.

Meeting a goal takes persistance and YOU DID IT!
Way to go Aiko!
I can see why 100,000 meters in a week and 27,000 on the last day would would be daunting. BUT YOU DID IT!

I want to set a goal of two million for next year too!

Congratulations!

I'm slowly working my way there as well. I have no doubt you'll make your second million this next year.

Congratulations, Aiko! I don't know if I would have had to fortitude to cram 100K into a week.

Great job, Aiko!

Didn't it feel reeeeeeally good to see those last few meters roll over on the monitor? You did a marathon of sorts anyway, just by getting that 100k in during that short of a time.

Did you get your C2 million meter goodies ordered yet?

Congrats Aiko! I'm hoping to get a million in this season - I had really slacked off in April, so need to get back at it since it's the new season! I just love being a Duck - and putting my goal in writing on this Forum really helps me get a focus & work towards it too. Happy Quacking in this new C2 year!

Susan - we'll have to keep each other motivated to get two million this year! I think my mother-in-law thinks I'm crazy, but I think it's doable!

Jen - for sure I was counting down the meters this past weekend! All I could think was just 30 minutes at a time, OK, just 15 minutes, every bit counts and soon it'll be done! :-)

Catherine - I'm sure you can get a million in this season, just stay with it and the ducks will carry us all through!

Thanks everyone for the support!

Aiko

Congratulations Aiko!

My first million took me more than 3 years, and I still get a thrill out of wearing the T-shirt. I also have the certificate placed where I can see it when I need a boost. It's really fun reaching these milestones.

Thanks everyone!! I need to keep the feeling of reaching my first million in mind, I've been falling off the wagon what with work and racing season (outrigger canoe paddling). My shoulder's been bothering me a bit also so I don't want to push it too hard with several more canoe races coming up.

I am a bit bummed that I haven't received my T-Shirt yet. I don't want to bug them too much about it, but it's been six weeks now...

I also think I need to join up with the healthy habits group as I've been giving into the food temptation lately and the need for comfort food (onion rings, rice, some chocolate, etc...) I'll have some healthy snacks, but then we're too lazy to cook for dinner and end up ordering pizza or something. (plus I'm bloated and retaining water this week) So, I'll hop on over to the HH thread and post some goals.

Thanks again!
Aiko

Congratulations Hapa!! I'm working on my 4th million now. I am collecting the glasses, which I use every day to drink lots of water. I'm looking forward to the long-sleeved shirt for the 5 mil mark too. Its a real ego boost to have folks read the 1 mil shirt, especially when I went to my grandson's rowing regattas. I even made a custom Marathon iron-on for another shirt, which is a big winner too. I try to do a marathon a year, and then I add the date and time to the shirt with a marker.

Paddling question: We are leaving in a couple of weeks for a week on the big island of Hawaii. Its another grandchild's turn for a week with grandma and grandpa, so Katelyn (nearly 12) will come along. I want to try my hand (body?) at an outrigger session somewhere near Wailoa. Any suggestions?

Brag: My eldest grandson rows for Northeastern University in Boston now. They placed 5th in the Nationals last week. We have a special relationship because we both do 'hard time' on the erg. We took him to Kauai when he was 12 and introduced him to the water (snorkeling, scuba, boogie-boarding, sea kayaking) His family is sedentary and he had never done any of those things before. The trip made a big difference in his lself-confidence and life.

Enough of this-back to the erg. I'm erging for 1/2 of a match for my workouts during the World Cup.

Hey Grams,

I'll check with my club to see if anyone knows of a club. I seem to remember seeing somewhere that some travel agencies or hotels have programs where people can try it out. I'll let you know if I hear of anything.

And congrats to the grandson, that's awesome! Boston is a great place to row.

Thanks!
Aiko
