The 5k on RowPro

Post by Thomas » April 22nd, 2006, 2:45 am

I signed up to do a 5k on Saturday. It appears scheduled for 1900 GMT but it maybe 1800 GMT. I will make it for sure at 1900 but I don't know about 1800.

I look forward to racing on Saturday on RowPro, I have been training but just not on RowPro. I have been rowing mainly 10k at a drag of 170 and usually once a week I row something like a 3k or a 5k at a drag of 170. This past weekend, I think it was, I rowed a 3k with a goal pace of 1:40. It was kind of nice doing something alot less than 10k and I got to try out the 170 drag. I was glad to get under 10-minutes. I have been mainly rowing a routine of 2 days on and 1 day off and a routine of 3 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on, 1 day off.

Hi Thomas, I am RM for that 5k. As for times, it is in fact at 1900 GMT, in spite of appearing at 1800 when you check it through the RowPro application. This is just a bug that has emerged since DST. The times on the digital rowing website are the accurate ones.

Take care,

it is 11:10 (1910 GMT) and I logged in at 10:45 (1845 GMT). The clock reads 18:11.

Mike hauck just signed up. So, this race must be for 12:00 PM Pacific Time as opposed to 11:00 am Pacific Time.

I just noticed this clock is off by 1-hour also. It is 11:18 am but the clock on this web site reads 10:18 am.

Did you account for the fact that GMT didn't change with daylight savings time, Thomas? If I have it figured out right, my time zone (Mountain) is GMT minus 6 (used to be GMT minus 7 before DST). However, when checking race start times through RowPro, they all appear an hour early. :? Soo.. I am only minus 5 hrs from those listed start times.

I'll have just managed to sort out all this confusion, then DR will have things straightened out with the update and I'll be muddled again!

Anyway, I see you made it in the end. Glad to have you with us. We needed someone to lead the pack!

That's it.

I went from GMT -8 to GMT -7. I am thinking of the 8-hour time difference between where I live and those that live in England when we all are adjusted for day light savings, which I think they call summer time. I think England is GMT and when they go forward they become GMT +1.

I am glad I made it also. I decided not to keep the 1:42 pace in light of I have to leave for work shortly after the end of the session. It would have been much better for me to race 1-hour earlier. The 1:42 pace is for me a special effort, which I think I am capable of doing in light of the 3k I did on Monday at sub-1:40. But, I would need more than 25-minutes to both recover and get ready for work.

What does "RM" mean in one of your posts?

Our current timezone is called British Summer Time.

GMT (strictly it is UTC (Co-ordinated Universal Time) which includes the leap seconds) is fixed. Local timezones vary relative to GMT in those states and countries that have daylight saving time.

Daylight saving time starts on a different weekend in Europe vs North America.

That whole website is one of the most useful resources. The meeting planner is excellent (to avoid calling folks at 2 o'clock in the morning). You can use that for planning RowPro races.

Citroen, thanks for the link. I am on Pacific Daylight Time.

Krysta, I looked RM up and got a bunch of links to the United States Postal Service abreviations.
