Yeah, I don't get that comment either. Especially considering Dougie jumped the fence.

Niall,
Time to update the TA web site eh? We've had quite the switch-a-roo lately.

Frankly, who the hell cares...let's just row and be done with it. The current situation reminds me of the sketch in Monty Pythons Life of Brian. "People's front of Judea or Judeas popular peoples front...."

Because I think you should be seeking to unify your original team not to break it into two factions. That's what being part of a team means. At the moment you're heading down the road of pissing everybody off. You need to stand back and look at it from the other members point of view. Some of us are quite active at the regional races. A team has more value than the sum of it's parts (or so they tell me).

I joined Taff Attack because Niall, specifically, invited me - despite my apparent lack of any true Welsh connections. I've been proud to row wearing the Taff AIO. Around the same time I could have joined SUB-7. [With hindsight perhaps I made the wrong choice.] As an aside, I note that Niall hasn't, yet, switched his team affiliation.

It's a strange reaction to the controversy over Dwayne; his refusal to confess to cheating or leave the team or row a public race and the dubious metres that he records.

I can see it's largely down to C2 and their honour system and the system of chosing your own team affiliation (the teams don't have a closed membership; if they're listed on the website by Dena/Bill anyone can join and you can't stop them or remove them). So I could register my affiliation with TAR and you can't stop me. It is also an odd reaction to the "Chad effect", a better reaction could have been to tell Chad to mind his own business.

As the founding members you could and should have worked with C2 and Dwayne to prove he cheated and expel him from the team or prove his bona fides and support him. Jumping ship, throwing your toys out of the pram and starting a new team with the same name (give or take a suffix) isn't the sporting way to play. I still remain agnostic on whether Dwayne is or isn't a cheat (and will continue to do so).

Edit: I've just seen this:

Which I think says the same as the diatribe I've just written.

The only comment on that is that we become the laughing stock in exactly the same way.

I don't want this to take off into an argument.

Suffice to say Dougie, some of what you say is true, some isn't. Mostly it isn't. Some comments:

Dwyane was the reason we left, but he's not entirely the reason we don't come back.
Apart from the initial night when we lost our cool (for which we apologised and made our peace) we have not said Dwayne is a cheat - we have said he needs to answer the questions asked.
If you feel proud to race as a Taff, think how me and Rob felt - and we had to walk away - you have no idea how tough that was - and you can only think of us that we want to start trouble. As far as the new team goes it wasn't just our choice - what of the others who wanted to leave but didn't want to give up being a Taff? Just because they are not active on the forum or attend race meetings they were still part of something - and these are people that have swam in the Taff, then come home to have our mam's bollock us coz "You'll catch Typhoid"

 Another failed attempt at a faster 10K tonight. I think the pace boat on the PM3 is actually psyching me out. Each time I've pretty much been on schedule to at least do as well as the time before, and with a mad sprint at the end, possibly do better. However as I almost puked last time and was like a zombie the whole next day I'm pretty apprehensive about pushing hard enough to beat it. This time I bailed with @2800 m to go. I've got to make it all the way through next time whether it makes a PB or not because this quitting is really bad!!!!!

Basically the average I'm trying to beat is 2:00.7. I was holding steady at 2:00.8 and was actually ahead of the pace boat when I bailed. I was getting puzzled and confused because how could I be ahead of the pace boat when I was .1 sec/500 slower than my final average last time? I think the pace boat was just about to suddenly speed up when I got to the last 2K and I started panicking that I wouldn't be able to speed up with it when it did.

Anyone got any thoughts on fighting this kind of idiocy?

Next time, no pace boat, just a focus on the final average, period it.

Carla If you are re-rowing a previous race, the pace boat runs at the pace that you rowed in the split you are in. For a 10K the pace boat wil change pace every 2K (I think) so you might find when you get past 8K you can row at a slightly slower pace and still make the time.

I only use the pace boat in the first split - to get ahead of it:-) then hit the change display button to show the averages.

Personally the estimated time to finish is the best if you are trying to beat a target time.

Go for it

On my rowing, I am at the tail end of the flue cold thing I got so have only done 1K (last night) in the last 7 days so Godfried is safe this month
Given that he is 1 minute ahead of me I think he's safe for quite a few months yet

Keep rowing

Carla,

I am afraid I don't have the luxury of the pace boat yet.
I think once you get that for through and feel like quiting the most important thing is to just focus on achieiving another 500M. If you think of the the 2800M to go and calculate how long that will take then it just scares you that you can't suffer that pain for another 10 minutes.

I went through the same today. I actually stopped with 3000Metres to go had a drink and then got going again. I went off too fast to start with and held 1.48 splits for 6Km but then started fading.

Finally managed 36.20.3. 14 seconds faster than previous attempt and if I don't stop I should be able to knock another 10 seconds off.

I have to say when I saw Mrs T at 1:48 I was really amazed!!!!!!!

I used to think the pace boat actually did exactly what you did last time, i.e., not just by the split, but minute by minute. Too bad it doesn't. Maybe if you set the thing up on the original row to do 500m splits instead of just 5 big ones it could be more helpful on long rows.

I've never actually pushed the 10K this far--my current time scores over 1000 on Nonathlon--so have never faced this on this distance before. You're right, I'm going to have to just focus on 500 m at a time from about 3K to go. It will probably be easier if the distracting pace boat is not there--I think it is easier to imagine you can change the average pace figure than it is to see the pace boat running away from you suddenly.
