I would guess that you could get down an average pace of 1:33-34. It really all depends on your physiology at this time. I know that one of my buddies can beat me on anything shorter than 500m, even though I whoop him on a 2k. But given your 2k PB, I would say that 1:32-33 is possible for a 1k for you (3:04-:06). I don't know if I could go that fast and my 2k PB is a 6:24. I just never seemed to have that higher end power, you might however.

Hi Karl,

my 1k PB is about 3:04 which is slow for my 500 - 1:23.* but Ok for my 2k - 6:29.* .... my comment in a 1k is that is definitely not a fly and die (that stops at 500m). I would suggest 6 - 7 quick strokes that gets your avereage down below you target by a little then look to hold your pace and maybe pick it up a little at the end by upping your rate. My SPM for 2k is about 32/33 and for 1k about 36/36.

regds George

2X5000 with 5min. rest. 19:00 and 19:12 in that order. And for me this isn't a recovery row.

I'd say at an even pace you can do around 3:08-3:10 or faster.

I gotta say that this is kinda depressing... how can people have enough time to do more than 2hrs a day to training... INSANE!!

I worked out with weights at the ymca today.... but first my class bought a cheesecake... It was a good weight workout and I plan on erging when I finish my homework... around midnight.

~Sara~

"Life's short... row hard"
"Row till you die, then power 10"

I'm getting back into rowing after a long sabatical..... 10 years... I bought my c2
last february and have clocked 130,000 meters. though most of it was the first 4 months of ownership. I am now stepping up to the plate and making a commitment to race the CRASH B's in Boston this february as i determined to do last year when i bought the machine. I'm 43 and rowed 5000 tonight 20 minutes ago. I pulled at 2:25 with some stress. I did 2:29 2 days ago for 5000. This will be my stick for the next 2 months. What amazes me most is the heartrate monitor. They didn't have that 15 years ago.

I raced the CRASH B's when i was 29 when it was in the cage at MIT. That was the most amazing race of my life. I beat my best time and out raced all my team members at the health club being the only one to beat my personal time of 2500 meters in 8:56. I want to get my numbers down to maybe 2:10 for a race pace which i think i'll be able to do knock wood and row. Have a great night I'm really getting excited.....javascript:emoticon(':D')
Thanks all for your input!

I never had much hope of anyone having done a 5.5s f/d and then a serious PB attempt within a week or so, but your posts seems reasonable. I will perhaps next week attempt a 1:34 average, with the race plan described by George D.

The 1k did was primarily meant as getting to know "reality" in where I stand now, not to perform the best possble time. 6:39 2k given "double the d add 5" only means 3:09,5 for the k. But even if I start out at 3:08 I know it will feel easier than the f/d I did.

Had 2 storming sessions on the road bike today, but foolishly still went on the rower. Just planned to do a 3000m in 10mins (1:40) got to half way and blew up, legs just to tired from the 25 miles today.
We must remember to listen to our bodies, I should of today.

Sir Pirate
Went 21,097M in 1:52:37 (141 Avg. HR) . . . not bad for being only the fourth time I've ever used a rowing machine. Before this week, I was a runner -- now, I've fallen for erging (and my knee's couldn't be happier).
