19:22.8 today for 5K. Started out at last PB pace but found myself bumping ahead slightly so went with it. Tried to let it rip the last 500m but not much left in the tank. God is that painful! Never hurt that much in a 5K road race before.

I planned to try a HM PB today. <br /><br />After 6K I was on schedule for sub 1h25, but I got an important phone call that I couldn't ignore. It messed up my PB and the online Rowpro race. <br /><br />I rested an hour and tried again for a 1h PB. <br /><br />Well, I suprised myself with a new PB: <b>15122</b>. Old was 15088 from a year ago.<br /><br /><br />(thanks, Geert-Jan, for waiting).<br /><br />Tom

Tom,<br /><br />Congratulations on that 1hr PR! I agree, 5K's are fun. I seem to be able to pace myself better than on 2K's so as someone suggested I think I'll stick with those for a while before another honest effort on a 2K. Blowing up on 2 of three attempts has made me a little gun shy.<br /><br />rich

I've never posted here before among the the PB reports but I'm especially proud of the effort and training that got me to my latest PB. It's been a week since CRASH-B's and I am happy to report I did a 2K Personal Best there: 6:52.0.<br /><br />My goal was exactly that.<br /><br />My previous best was 6:53.1 from 2 years ago at Pittsburgh Indoor Rowing Championships. <br /><br />CRASH-B's was an incredible venue. <br /><br />Jim Pisano<br />40 y.o. I never competed before today and usually go for the long, slow row. I never timed myself for a 2K or even 500 meters for that matter either. I was really trying to go sub 8 minutes. Having never rowed a sub 2 minute 500 before, I thought this would be an accomplishment.<br /><br />So today, at my first competition (veterans category) I placed fourth. My first 500 was 1:49.1 and the 2K was 7:22.0. Stroke rate was a pretty consistent 33spm (+1 spm from time to time).<br /><br />On top of that, at the 669 meter mark of the race, logged my first million meters (started day after Thanksgiving).<br /><br />All in all, I'm pretty happy with that. Thanks to all forum posters who have provided a lot of great information and tips.<br /><br />Kim

Kim:<br /><br />Wow, <b>awesome </b> time, and great that you cracked your first <b>million </b> meters. Pretty amazing that you've never done a sub-2:00 for 500M to then pull a time like that! Mark,<br />Thanks for the kind words. This was the "Brighton Burn Ergatta", a yearly event in Rochester New York that caters to the local college and high school crowd. Of 16 events, only the last 3 involved anyone over 30 years old.<br /><br />I'm still pretty pumped about my result. I did everything wrong in training for this event. I got hung up on getting the million under my belt so I've rowed 80k in the last week (15k each of the last 2 days and even 4k this morning before the event) with no rest days. I did no speed work, per se, but I spent some time with Xeno's DVD's focusing on technique and breaking down the stroke.<br /><br />I plan on backing off some on the daily meters and phasing myself back into some cross-training/weights. Also, going to approach my next event with more structure.<br />Kim
