R27 was the only target, as I'm feeling like I've lost touch with higher stroke rates, so I need to incrementally rebuild them back in.

I think a real game changer was your advice that my grip might be too loose. I‘m now more activated at the catch with a slightly tighter grip. I have less problems after a hard long interval session than after a UT2. I‘m still working on it.

Something isn't quite right atm.
Started a low rate HM, as my back was aching and even after 8 1/2 hours of sleep I felt not recovered. Stopped halfway, as HR was going to rise at nearly no power output
I assume this is related to my allergies. Last year I had nearly no symptoms and cannot remember I had any issues with stamina as well, but this year it seems a little bit different.
Will see how it develops over the next days/weeks. Currently I feel a huge dip in recovery and stamina, despite having no 'real' symptoms (near to nothing, only light sniffy noise from time to time and my throat a bit rough sometimes).

Allergies are funny things as you can be unpredictable, and they can also really affect you without being very noticeable. Are you taking antihistamines? I'm not sure if they will work specifically for you, but they do help with seasonal allergies

There can be so much lost in translation, and I realised fairly recently that a loose grip means different things to different people. It's good to know that correcting a fairly simple thing can make quite a difference. Too loose a grip won't engage your bigger muscle groups, but too tight a grip will exhaust your forearms.

You'll hopefully adapt to the different type of strain now, as you're probably changing different muscle groups dominance, as well as perfecting the right amount of grip.

Thanks fellas. I could have taken the 'normal' path of not doing anything too intense given the previous days, but I just had a gut feeling that I needed to do something with a bit more bite, and at a higher stroke rate. It always used to be my comfort zone, but I'm favouring r25 and under far too much.

I've got a few enforced rest days now, so it was good to feel like I've earned it. I just need to get to sub 79 minutes and then I'll be happier. Something that feels like it's starting to get closer now that my confidence is getting stronger.

Definitely they are!
Not taking antihistamines and I won't, as long as I can prevent.
Two years ago it was so severe, I couldn't get outdoors for some hours without getting very dry eyes, blocked nose, sometimes rough throat. Tired and sleepy all day long, nights were horrible, as blocked nose prevented sleep. Took antihistamines for two years, but didn't help.
Autumn '23 went to a doctor for blood test to see what exactly causes this and then he prescribed specific medicine/antihistamines, told me at the same time "this will never go away, it will only develop further". I thought I would get them, if I need them - these prescriptions are still in my cupboard. Last year I had no symptoms at all.
As I changed my diet around that time, I wanted to see the outcome also in terms of my allergies. Obviously, it has some positive benefit, as I didn't change anything else and before it got worse every year over 5-6 years.
This year it seems to be a little different, but symptoms overall are a 1000 times better than in these two very severe years. If this is all I need to deal with for a month or two, I'll take it!
Sadly, it's the wrong me for an endurance comp like ergenduranceseries

Right back from an hour on the water, starting dragonboat training for an event in August.
My watch logged only 5k, but we had much stops for explanations and several technique drills. Overall a nice session.

Thanks Justin. r27, and up to r29, never used to bother me and it was quite often my preference, but in the past couple of years (I guess) it's been a steady, but too subtle to easily notice, drop to favouring lower stroke rates. I need to make a stand as it won't rectify itself, as it feels like I'm losing some level of performance.

Probably not the best time to attack this week's Erg Endurance Series after a lot of driving this weekend and frying in the sun for over 90mins at the football yesterday. but probably not far off as good as I've got in me. My 500m and one minute PB's suggest I should've been quicker on the 333m pieces, but since managing the tendonitis in my elbow, I've been hesitant to really push it and "grip and rip" as these efforts really do trigger it.
