The final few minutes or 400-500 metres are usually the easiest parts of a piece mentally. It’s the ’thank god it nearly over’ part!!! I think most people find the last push and empty the tank. I remember when I was doing some disgusting military training an instructor told me a human mind will only let the body work at 10% of its actual potential, whereas a horse will go till it kills itself. I always remember these words when I’m going balls out at the end of race or workout and always find that extra few percent.

In short, it’s mental strength and mind games, trust your fitness and push through. You probably won’t die!

That said, if you really cannot give anymore, most likely means you paced it wrong and have given to much at the beginning/middle.

Been working on stroke rate on skierg lately (advised by an Olympic biathlete, trying to keep over 48s/m) so haven't had a PB lately. But today, knocked over a minute off 10k pb (down to 45:59.4) and only 1s/m below target.

This is borderline rude the PBs that you're smashing out, almost, with ease!! Huge result Justin, and it's great to see you thoroughly reaping the benefits of your hard work.

Thanks Stu, Anthony, Pete, & Mike. These pieces, especially the longer ones, certainly aren't much fun during, but it's been pretty satisfying to cobble together a set of season and age-group bests that I'm quite proud of :).

Spurred on by a Sub7 teammate who set his own blistering 6k PB earlier today, I knew I had to step it up!

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M
19:57.7	6,000	1:39.8	352	1511	30
3:19.3	1,000	1:39.6	354	1517	30

3:20.5	3,000	1:40.2	347	1495	30
3:20.1	4,000	1:40.0	349	1502	30
3:20.0	5,000	1:40.0	350	1504	30
3:17.0	6,000	1:38.5	366	1560	32
The race plan was: 1) Stick to r30 come hell or high water, and 2) instead of thinking of the entire daunting 6k, my focus would be on getting to 1500m left, which I was confident I could do on pace, and then start to wind it down over that final 1500m if I was feeling good. And if not, I’d fight to hang on and salvage a decent score.

This is an age-group PB, season's best, and my first time going sub-20' for 6k since I was 21/22 years old.

Nice to slay this dragon... need to revisit the 500m next...

This is quite an unbelievable time Justin. Churning out fast PB's and being strong across the board is what I find most impressive.

Fully agree to Alex, it is very impressive how good your scores are in a wide range from short stuff to marathon distances! This is what makes a good rower in my opinion B)

Jumped back on the rower that had been acting as a coat rack for years for the January 500m a day challenge. It was a great challenge to build a daily routine and at two months and a half months in I have worked my way up to 5000m a day. I've taken it slow to not kill myself and as my guts shrinks, form improves and I get stronger there is nothing like the feeling of rocking a new personal best. I catch a wave of excitement when I reach that moment in the middle of a row when I realize I'm close. If I dig deep and give that extra push today might be a new milestone.
This is my first post to the Concept 2 forum so a hello to everyone. Now that the coat ra... ummm... I mean rower is being used as it was intended, here are some of my personal bests so far...

Perhaps the final PB of this C2 season, as I'm honestly not sure I'm willing to subject myself to the torture of a max-effort full marathon...

500m:

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M
1:19.9	500	1:19.9	686	2661	45
0:16.2	100	1:21.0	659	2566	45

0:15.9	400	1:19.5	697	2697	49
0:16.1	500	1:20.5	671	2609	48
Managed to squeeze under 1:20 by the skin of my teeth as my life was flashing before my eyes the last 10 strokes. I've never considered sprinting to be a strength of mine so am quite pleased with this one.
