He got cold feet and didn't turn up. So I was a bit stuck for what to do. I thought about a Boat Race or a 6K but I could not remember what pace to go at. So I settled for a 2K and got a new PB.

7:07.0 an improve of 3.3 seconds. At 1k in 1:45.7, 1500 1:46.0 and had a tough last 500m metres with not much left to finish on 1:46.8. So I dropped 3 seconds in the last 500m and there was no chance of going any faster. Hopefully I am still not 100% because I am sure 7:04 is possible.

Nonathlon down again. boo hoo

John:

Outstanding! Congratulations! Eeking out every second I see. Sub-7 is in sight ... even if it's just at the horizon!

Regards -- Mark

All improvement is good, and is to be applauded. How fast it is relative to others is totally irrelevent. How fast it is relative to your previous effort is what counts.

If we all worried about meaningless comparisons to others, most of us would give up. For example, Hennie's training today comprised a 5K followed by 2 X 10K. All three pieces were faster than my own PBs for 5 & 10K. He is the same age and only slightly heavier than me, but rather than being despondent, I am inspired by his efforts. As soon as my back mends, I will be doing my best to close the gap.

So don't understate your efforts. A PB is a PB is a PB is a PB...

Hi Mark and Peter,

Mark congratulations with your new PB!
