I don't know if I ever will attack this beast
Thanks! It's a beast alright. I've never been fast at anything. Very grateful to have discovered C2 rowing and these longer challenges.

Fantastic. Closing in on a sub 8. Nothing but admiration to churn out these sort of metres.
Thanks Alex!

Thanks mate! All your wisdom in this thread has been immensely helpful.
I'm glad to hear that. I always hoped that I could make mistakes so others didn't have to!!

Anyone doing endurance erging on SkiErg? What distances do you ski?
I'm on week 12 of my journey currently. I've gone up to marathon distance once during this period (with rest breaks, and at a doable pace). I'm currently thinking of when I could take a stab at something like 10 x 5k as a checkpoint. I'm also debating progressing a long-ski for many weeks in a row gradually, vs. throwing in more heroic checkpoints with backdown weeks to recharge.

My main target in mind has previously been the 100,000m TT all-out, but my mind starts to wander toward bigger tasks as time goes on. How about you - is there a specific goal ahead and/or timeframe? Would love to hear how it is going!

I've got a couple Marathons and 2 100ks on the SkiErg...I love that machine!

Vau, I didn't imagine people do workouts beyond 1h on SkiErg, I'm impressed.

My main goal is to use SkiErg to aid my long distnace (classic) skiing (distances 40K to 90K), and I never do workouts longer than 1h. The types of workouts I use SkiErg for are:
- Z1-2 sessions for 45min-60min, mostly when time and weather constraints don't allow for skiing or roller skiing
- 5K all outs to track my "form"
- various types of intervals aimed at either increasing speed/poling strength/cadence (short sprints) or aerobic capacity (longer intervlas)

I reserve long endurance workouts for roller skiing or snow skiing. The longest workout I currently have in mind is one hour TT on SkiErg but it's probably happening after the season.

If you have any ski-only details for the 100k's that helped, feel free to pass them along :) I think this thread has very well covered the broad overview of successful endurance erging, which will 99% cover the ski erg too...but I don't doubt there will be extra nuances to discover!

I’ve done the Ski and Row the last 2 years and will again this year. In my experience, the only real difference is activity time, the ski took longer +/- 30-60min. Everything else is pretty much the same:
- maintain a sustainable pace (i.e. zone two)
- have plenty of fuel and fluid near by. Eat and drink light and often. You’ll need the fuel a little higher for the Ski. I like my food in single serving dixie cups so I can grab with one hand throw ‘em down my gullet and keep on! Hydration is in multiple water bottles, some just water, others with electrolytes. All laid out on a shelf at grabbing height within arms reach.
- make sure whatever entertainment is ready to go
- charge batteries and set and power cords for phone, ipad, etc
- have any replacement headbands/shirt/socks nearby if you need them
- get after it!
- order the pin

Sure! Glad to share, generaland specific.....(YMMV)
1. I had my bro-in-law John crew for me. He kept my water bottles filled and hand fed me so I didn't have to stop too often. Adjusted the 2 fans as needed. Changed TV channels.etc.
2. I utilized Tailwind hydration electrolytes w/caffeine.
3. MuffinTops was my go to "fuel"
4. The TV playing YouTube videos kept me distracted. This could be good or bad.
5. ☆ Utilized various pull techniques and foot positions to help reduce tired muscles.some not very efficient, but keep moving is the key.
6. Trained ahead of time with a pace I could maintain, approx. ~3:00/500m.
7. Don't jump out too fast and burn out.
8. ☆ Definitely good footwear! I use Brooks 23 Adrenaline GTS with fresh inserts and Marrino wool socks.
9. Have a solid reason for the attempt.

Ian Barnes and I will start an attempt to be the first lightweight tandem to complete 1,000,000M on Friday morning. As you may be aware, as a "team" the rules require us to keep the flywheel spinning throughout the whole distance so we will essentially be rowing continually for what we expect to take most of 4 days.

For those feeling generous or just wanting to support our insanity, please find below a link to sponsor me for this event.

Many thanks

Words fail me, apart from the very best of luck.

The JustGiving link isn't working, so can you please post again?
