I am back. I was dealing with a medical issue for most of 2024 that prevented me from doing any rigorous exercise. But that has recently been sorted out. So now slowly ramping up my exercise and was able to post a time in this month's CTC competition (albeit slow). You know you have been away for far too long when you can't remember the password to this message board or to log-in your time :-) But I plan to again become a more consistent "lightweight" contributor to team competitions and challenges going forward.

My wife Linda is doing fine. She had her own medical issue a couple years ago with a broken femur, and has not exercised with the same rigor since. But I will see if I can get back into the rowing saddle. Hopefully she'll regain the competitive bug again of trying to keep pace with Anna Rae Green :-)

Marc - So happy to see you back on the CTC page to get Boat 3 floating. I was wondering why I hadn't seen the Voorhees name for a while. Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. Please tell Linda that it's "game on" - any time she feels like getting back to it.

First training session in three weeks due to severe cold, christmas holiday, etc
Where is my fitness gone? Got the CTC in today. I thought I could easily catch Sabrina. Well the tank was empty, HR went through the roof and I missed her by one meter

Happy New Year to everyone around the world.

Glad you were able to get the CTC in - Thanks to that I see we are only one person away from filling Boat 4. Our lightweights have found their way back - so we just need one more person (heavyweight or lightweight, male or female). It would be a great way to end 2024!

Happy New Year to all!

Good to see you back bassongirl!

Simple piece for the January CTC, a straight 5K. Anna and I have had a go at it already. Let's get some boats floating.

welcome Peter - we need all hands on deck at the moment!! We have always been an inclusive team so just go for it.

I have just done my first "hard" 5k @2:05.7 in about 4 years I think to float the first boat so quite pleased really. I have optimistically set a goal to race again by the end of the year with a 7:20 2k in mind. Nothing like dreaming but if I say it out loud it sounds feasible.
Happy New Year to all!

Thank you for the welcome. I just gave the CTC a try. I managed 19:26, which is a SB. A promising start of the year.

Happy 2025 Folks!

There is still one week left to add meters for the January Virtual Team Challenge. We are at 3,300,000 (with 10% coming from Peter Brooks alone - great effort Pete!) Can we get to 5 million by the end of the challenge? Let's go!!

I just hit that number for my lifetime total - so pretty excited about request my free T-shirt :D

Hope everyone has a great rest of the month,

Happy 2025 everyone! It's been a bit of a stressful year so far here in Southern California but I woke up to pouring rain this morning, so maybe things are looking up.

I had plans to get back to it and do a ton of steady state in December/January and actually contribute again this year, but I've been having SI joint pain as a result of my tennis addiction and failed on this. Great job to everyone who has gotten us to 3.3M, and that is amazing, Pete!

Did finally get on for this month's CTC today, though I didn't try to push hard. Thought this might be my first missed challenge since I started in 2020, so I'm glad I finally got to it. Glad to see next month's challenge will only be a 300 m

Any chance anyone else wants to take on a steady state program of some sort? I want to do 2-3 sessions per week (at least 3 hours per week basically) for a couple months, but I've been struggling to get myself motivated. Thought maybe a few of us keeping each other accountable on a group chat or text might get me going.

Sorry skipper can't help with the training at the moment just struggling to get to the gym regularly unfortunately but some steady metres are always worthwhile.
Just noticed we only need one lwt to float boat 3! Anyone?
Feb is just a single 300m so maybe more entries.
All the best to everyone.

managed to get the first entry overall for the 300m challenge with the help of time zones and a Saturday morning trip to the gym.
@1:41.2 pace which is ok considering the low training load.
best of luck to all

Thanks Anna Rae and skkipper. I've signed up to the annual Row The Distance challenge to complete 2025 miles in 2025. I coupled that with the c2 Long Haul challenge to get a big head start on the annual challenge. I'd never tackled the Long Haul because 30hrs in a month always seemed too daunting around work and family life. Lots of long steady erg sessions to reach 32hrs and 404km later.

skkipper, to reach 2025 miles a lot of my sessions this year are going to the long and steady. My fear is that my longer sessions become more about churning through metres at a really easy pace rather than being beneficial for any training goal. I'm having to hold myself accountable that a couple of sessions a week are going to be at a higher tempo. If what I'm doing seems to fit with you then I'm really happy to support you.
