Just want to show off my negative splits. I've never had them work out so nicely before, as I'm newer to rowing, and this just made me happy to see. I'm still learning and row-gowing, and am trying to figure out how to gain 'watts' without a HR over 150, yet my determination is there... never quit.

Kai, the Wonder Golden of knee repair fame, has a small mass on her spleen. The ER vet discovered this during a quick ultrasound - one that was as she said, more like taking a picture of the moon with your phone (and we know how well that works). The vet was to look at the area on chest where Kai stabbed herself on some yard item, but since she had the ultrasound probe out and a cooperative subject, she thought she'd check the abdomen. Because I asked: what made you look? I am grateful she did. The vet's discovery led to a more definitive ultrasound. Like humans, dogs can have a splenectomy (assuming the pet insurance authorizes), so we're having that taken out this next week. Apparently not uncommon for large dogs to get a mass on spleen as they age, but you don't know going into it all whether it's benign or not. And you don't know if it turns out to be benign whether you're out of the dog woods or not! So, we've gone from a dire diagnosis to a degree of hopefulness. Hard to fathom that your dog is ill when that dog is able to leap great bounds, and grab frisbees out of the air...although that dog laughs at my seeming lack of ability to do a good job throwing said frisbee. I do a pretty good job sending them sailing over the fence or onto the top of the gazebo. A side note is that Kai will get to wear a surgical recovery suit which I think looks like an astronaut outfit. Stay tuned, or be patient while I am tuned in.

" . . . Sounds to me like you've lead a sheltered life. You need to hang out with more Norwegians, Iowegians, and Minnesotans if you've never experienced uff da before! Uff da does not equal oy vey. Oy vey is used to express something negative; as I understand it kind of means dismay. Uff da is an expression used where there is some kind of sensory overload going on, and thus could be positive, or negative. So it is a much more versatile phrase. Positive example: If a beautiful blonde Norwegian woman walks into a gathering of Norwegian bachelor farmers, there is bound to be an uff da (Scandinavian wolf whistle) or two expressed by the men. Negative example: If the oldest son on the farm is given the task to re-dig the outhouse pit, there will be plenty of uff-da's muttered before the task is done!"
