Finding Training Partners - A new Solution!
Finding Training Partners - A new Solution!
Hi everyone,
I've always found it difficult to 'match' myself with other rowers, as I don't have a real-life community, everything's online based. And although my time with Free Sprits, Fitness Matters, and now RowAlong has helped me meet lots of people, and gauge who's on the same level as me, it's still not an easy thing to do (especially finding people outwith the team). I know challenges like the CTC help to see who's around me, but it's hard to know how to get in touch with 'strangers'. So
I've come up with, and made a solution. https://www.trainingamigos.com - it's basically a dating site, but you're looking for long rows on the erg, rather than long walks in the park!
Register with your current 2000m time - and you'll be automatically (if you check the box) added to a group of similar people. You can then connect with anyone in your group (or search other groups) and try to find someone that may be a good buddy (Amigo!) to train with.
There are 135 members as I write this, and it launched yesterday - so it's got people looking at it. And it'll only really work the more people join.
It's totally free. It has no team affiliation. It has nothing to do with RowAlong. There are no ads and your data won't be sold.
I just want to fix the problem I saw - and I really think TrainingAmigos is the solution. As long as people sign up, connect, and message.
Oh, and there's a logbook on there too. I'm trying to fix C2 integration over the next couple of weeks...

Re: Finding Training Partners - A new Solution!
I'm not sure I'll sign up or not, but this is a great idea and will help other ergers, as I do think that it's an issue for many and pegging yourself to someone who has got the performance that you want, but don't currently have, is a constant issue that I see.

Thanks. It's good to know you like the idea, even if it's not for you (right now). I'm hoping it'll take off - and if nothing else, those who don't want to be part of Facebook have a way to connect (other than this forum of course!)

Re: Finding Training Partners - A new Solution!
Great idea. Personally I currently get enough interaction on this and the FS Forums at present, but may well look into it when I have more time.
One thing I would say is that 2k is not the be all and end all if you are looking to include people who don't race. Not sure of a good alternative that would not have equal issues, but body size and some longer distance (perhaps 500 as well for the sprinters?) with an option to prioritise these might make the matching better as an all out sprinter might be 30S slower over 2k but match at 500M.

56, lightweight in pace and by gravity. Currently training 3-4 times a week after a break to slowly regain the pitiful fitness I achieved a few years ago. Free Spirit, come join us http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/forum/
Re: Finding Training Partners - A new Solution!
I totally agree. And after your reply, I've now added in fields for 500m 5000m and 10000m so people can search/check deeper into the performances.iain wrote: ↑January 6th, 2025, 9:27 amGreat idea. But, as far as the main "AmigoMatcher" is concerned, I've still kept that to 2000m. It is the shortcut to sharing ability across the community - kinda like asking someone their golf handicap.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Registration failed and terms of use are not displayed, when clicking the link.
When I pressed "create account", the page stayed with my entries and the password fields got emptied. No info about wrong entries or other issues.
I am using Samsung Internet version 27.0.0.79, just in case it helps and I did nothing wrong.

I'm
And I'm trying to work out what code will help with the Samsung thing. There's an oddness to how it deals with Javascript and cookies, so I'm trying to add some code that helps. Hopefully by tomorrow it'll be working!! Not an easy fix...

The TOS thing has been fixed (stupid mistake on my part).
