Hi. I am considering a used Model D or E. The space I have is quite limited so an E will be too tall as hoping to put the fan unit end in a small/low alcove.
I cannot find anything on line so can somebody measure the height of a D from the floor to the top of the fan unit please? Thank you

The height is 84cm.
But think of the air blockage, if the cage is near to a wall/surface. This will affect the damping factor.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as the effect is relatively constant.
For example, let's say you typically use a DF of around 115-120, which on the Model E at the gym I use means that the lever is close to the middle of its range of motion. Then, for whatever reason, something changes to affect the air flow near or through the flywheel. It's a simple enough task to reset the lever to your preferred DF, and you're on your way. (of course, this assumes you have enough adjustment range to accommodate the change.

If the flywheel is enclosed very much by the alcove (probably on the input and output surface of the flywheel cage), the effect can be huge.

Difficult to know by how much, you need to try. It depends on how much space is left to the flywheel surroundings.
