Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
Hey there! Did my first ever 5,000m on the SkiErg, was kinda fun, kinda sucked, but super glad I attempted it! How is 28:20.2 for 5000 meters?
Also, how's my form looking? (Sorry for the janky angle and footage!)

Re: Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
Nevermind, I guess I got my answer after I found this page: https://log.concept2.com/rankings/2020/ ... r=M&page=1
Wow, I have a long way to go!

Re: Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
Hi, don't know why you are looking at 2020 skierg rankings, but yeah, 28mins is not fast
But it's faster than someone not doing it, so it's a great start!
You probably should search C2 website for some technique videos for the skierg, as you have some things to improve. Mainly you could cut your triceps push, as it does not contribute much to accelerate the flywheel. Then you need really to rate up and be more explosive at the catch.

Thanks! Yeah, 2020 seems to be what popped up in my google search! Thanks for the tips on the form too!
Re: Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
Stay at it consistently, try to improve slowly, then speed will follow
5k is a good distance, be proud of being able to go this far

Re: Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
Thank you! I am currently running a 5k around 32 minutes, just started running again and that's very slow for me, so I'm thinking if I just keep plugging away my times will improve.
Re: Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
Definitely, consistency is key. And slow progression to not get injured, no big jumps in mileage or efforts.

Re: Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
I suspect many of us start off at much too low a stroke rate - I know I did.prayliftrun wrote: ↑December 16th, 2024, 11:00 amHey there! Did my first ever 5,000m on the SkiErg, was kinda fun, kinda sucked, but super glad I attempted it! How is 28:20.2 for 5000 meters?

If you watch elite skiers, the rating they hit is very high.
I can't match that sort of rating but try to keep it over 40.
Watching where we are on the ranking board is fun, but what really matters is that we're training.

Re: Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
Thanks for the reply! I figured I'm going to follow Beginner Pete for a while to build up my endurance, work on form, and get comfortable. Might conduct a time trial for the 100, 250, 500 and 1,000 after the New Year for you know what and giggles.
Re: Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
Probably replace the 250 with the minute, as then they are all rankable pieces and you get a reference where you standprayliftrun wrote: ↑December 19th, 2024, 2:37 pmThanks for the reply! Re: Question on 5,000m Time and Form Check
Congrats! Hopefully you've created a C2 log book account to start logging those meters, earn rewards, and participate in challenges. You can also check the rankings in there to filter by yr, age, gender, country, etc.

Yes, loving the logbook features!
In fact, just did another 5000m tonight and finished at 24:45.8, which is about 3:30 minutes off the previous time of 28:20.2. Also bumped my ranking from like 544 to 500 lol.

As a novice on the skierg, your form isn't that bad.
Check Andreas Nygaard's form (Ski Classics Legend) on his marathon world record: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTEQNv6n3j8 .
Keep in mind that he's 193cm x 93kg.
Which damper setting do you use?
Lately i'm using high df (6/7) for easy, slow sessions to build up local capacity (muscular endurance) and low df (4/5) when I do interval sessions or pb attempts.

Dang! Andreas is a beast! Thanks for sharing the video!
As to damper, I've just been jamming on #1. Newbie ignorance I guess?

I wouldn’t say ignorance, just try it.prayliftrun wrote: ↑December 27th, 2024, 3:37 pmDang! Andreas is a beast! Thanks for sharing the video!

Better than bombing on 10.
#1 is not much ski like so I don’t use it.
