I was hobbled by the sudden onset of problems with my right hip pretty early in the month. Tried to add some meters with one-legged erging for a while, but that turned out to be too much too. So now I'm looking forward to life after hip replacement. For now, it's the Rehab Crew for me.

Sleighful of meters over the last month, Lunies!

Two Challenges for us in January ...and if you're joining in on the Virtual Team Challenge to augment your activities with the January Revolutions Challenge, you'll need to join in the Teams tab of your logbook. Scroll over to the Teams section, and then down to join. These two concurrent challenges are quite complementary !

January Revolutions Challenge
January 1–31

Sign up for the January Revolutions Challenge to kick-start your year. There are a number of different goals to motivate you.

Choose Your Goal

Choose from one of the following goals. You can either row for consistency, time, or Calories. Choose carefully—you can change your goal up until the end of January 10 GMT, but after that, there's no changing it…

The Stretch Row, ski or ride a minimum of 500m on 20 days in January
The Big Stretch Row, ski or ride a minimum of 500m every day in January
The Haul Row, ski or ride for 15 hours in January
The Long Haul Row, ski or ride for 30 hours in January
The Burn Row, ski or ride 10,000 calories in January
The Big Burn Row, ski or ride 20,000 calories in January

Virtual Team Challenge
January 1–31

Kick off the new year by joining a team (or creating your own) to participate in the Virtual Team Challenge! Each team rows, skis or rides as many meters as they can collectively for the month of January. Note: This is a team challenge. You must belong to a team to participate. This is not the same as your club affiliation in your profile.

Full instructions, including signup deadlines, can be found on the Virtual Team Challenge page.To join or create a team, visit the Teams page.

ImageImageImage Lunies on the 2025 Roster !

Welcome to new member Jenaya!

So. The rowing year vs the calendar year always kind of messes with my brain. We're in the season of traditions right now, and Concept2, while it continues to branch into more exercise types, has its traditions too. The Concept2 rowing year starts in May because it aligns with the indoor rowing race season, which typically runs from September to March; this means the ranking season begins in May so that indoor race results can be included in the yearly data and allows athletes to set new goals at the start of their off-season training period on the rowing machine.

If you're wanting to hit the reset button on your erging goals, the January Challenges offer you some aspirational ones. And, you really have to look ahead to what you might be wanting to do. Want to do a marathon row? Build up to it. Want to build consistency and have some fun? Start doing the Challenges.

Many teams compete in these Challenges, and while we have a large team...not everyone participates in the Challenges. We've gone from finishing up in the top ten to trying to hang on to the top 20. There are some HUGE teams out there....in the hundreds of participants. We generally have 80-90 Lunies on the Challenge Team...and last year Norma had the top of the leaderboard with a finish at 626,626 m. Incredible! That's some major dedication, and the team came in at 12.5 MM for the 31 day Challenge. Every meter counts! Sign on...sign on...sign on....January 1st is going to land with a thump really soon.

New Year's Eve Virtual Team Virtual Party !

Post by Kona2 » December 27th, 2024, 1:40 pm

Every New Year's eve, the Lunies host a virtual new year's eve party. Either Jane or danwho acts as the virtual bartender, and we post our virtual drink orders here. It's getting a bit close (although danwho did give me a heads up a few days ago), so be thinking about how you would raise your glass - and what you want to see in it ! These virtual drinks are often quite exotic requests, and our bartender needs time to gather the materials. Any history you have about your drink (alcohol, non-alcohol, synthrol) is welcome. Recently, there have also been some postings for appetizer recipes, too.

danwho - are you up for the bartending assignment again this year?

Lunies - please start posting your NYE drink orders soonest!
