Decided today to try 5K test.

Previous 5ks have been within comfortable HR (not more than 85%). Today ignored monitor and just used pre "guesed" pace.

My 10k best was done at 1:47.5 and so I decided to try a conservative 1:45 pace. Managed to hold this to 1:45.3 for a time of 17:33. 8. The splits were fairly consistent within 1:45 - 1:46 apart from last 500 when I managed to speed up a bit.

Pleased to have done a 5K test although a little disappointed now that not sub 1:45 given 10k pace.

I rated at 27 spm and this is a rate taht I have not done in traing now for 3 months so I am assuming that with some more work around 27-28 spm perhaps in 30 min sessions I will become more used to this for race speed and hence more "relaxed" during next 5k test.

Heart rate for anyone interested averaged 159 (88% HRR) and reached 173 (100% HRR). I guess that max HR is a bit higher than 220 - age.

Neil

Melbourne lives up to the title of "Most Liveable City", it's a lovely place. It's one of the nicest cities I've ever been to anywhere in the world. I also managed to find the Powerhouse rowing club (on the Yarra river) and rowed a 10K on their erg.

The only advantage of going for a week is that I didn't get 100% switched to the Aussie time zone, so switching back to British Summer Time was a breeze.

If the, very kind, Australians invite me over again, I'll jump at the chance.

Dougie.

Again there was a hot day and I was too lazy to get up and row in the morning to avoid the motor boats. Hence, I hopped on the erg and lay 10 virtual kilometers behind me.

It became a PB that I am very satisfied with, especially since I felt so strong right over the finish line.

CODE

2k time watt rate
-----------------------------------------------
1st 7:21.8 260 24
2nd 7:20.3 262 25
3rd 7:18.0 267 25
4th 7:16.6 269 24
5th 7:10.5 281 25

The total piece was at 36:27.2, 268w and SR 24.

My previously best 10k was done a week ago as the first part of my 60min PB and was 36:55. Best stand alone 10k was 37:08 or something. So I feel I've taken a huge leap that I wasn't sure I would and I wont be surprised if I can go sub 36:20 at some point.

PS
After 8000m I did a small sprint (~290w) and got a little PB over 30min as I broke my previous best with 2 meters and got to 8204.

Well isn't it typical...You think you've done a great score and will shine a bit. And then someone goes and pull a ridiculously good score like that and put's it right after your post.

Just kidding!

Great score and best wishes for your 6:15!

I just crushed my old 10K pb.

Old pb was 38:28.4 @ 155.4 pace
New PB is 36:50.0 @ 1:50.5 pace

I was just hoping to break 38 minutes. ....

So now Hennie and I have to go head to head on the next 10K HC race unless he sets another PB.

Jeff
